Martien Vlemmix repeated today on his Facebook page a message he wrote in 2016 on the occasion of May 4. We accept that message with all due respect.

Martin wrote:

“You can write pages about the commemoration, but sometimes 1 photo, taken at the Dutch Embassy in Bangkok, and a perfectly recited poem by Marissa Gijsen is enough.”

Reverent silence

Brave hero

died

for our peace

innocent child

murdered

despite the pleas

never

we will forget you

and never

I will really know

what it was like at the time

full of fearful uncertainty

i can only be thankful

for my freedom

and make good use of it

in this peacetime

by God's love

to show, so big

an unconditional love

stronger than death

out of respect for you

I'm going to be quiet now

your life was not meaningless

it makes a difference even now.

    Beautiful.

Yesterday (May 4, 2022) I heard a much less respectful interview about the commemoration of death at Hilversum 1:

Journalist NPO1 interviews a woman from Eindhoven and concludes with:

“Enjoy it I would say, have you been to the toilet for a while because it will take a while, won't you? Enjoy it!"

    Unbelievable right?
