In 2007, the then 26-year-old Rose Sulaiman disappeared without a trace in Thailand. Her body was found a year later. Crime reporter Peter R. de Vries became involved in the case, as did a cold case team of the police in The Hague. Yesterday, her 46-year-old husband Bert van D. was recovered.

Rose, originally a Malaysian woman, lived with her Dutch husband and their son in Ranong. After her disappearance, the man left for the Netherlands with his son under suspicious circumstances. More than a year later, her body was found in a cesspool next to the couple's home. The man was suspected, but the Thai police could do little because he had already left for the Netherlands.

Peter R. de Vries made a report about the murder in 2012. He also remained committed to the cause behind the scenes, because he was convinced that the husband, who now lives in Benthuizen, killed his wife. Keeping the attention of the murder by Peter R. partly led to Thailand contacting the Dutch police again in 2015.

A cold case team of the police in The Hague has reopened the investigation into the murder case. In the month of May this year, Sulaiman's body was exhumed. The woman was found buried in the slurry pit in Ranong, in her native Malaysia. The cold case team investigated in Thailand and Malaysia, which eventually led to the arrest of 46-year-old husband Bert van D from Benthuizen.

Poor kid. Mother killed, and now father in jail for the murder. Based on the photo, I think he's about 10-12 years old now?

Does anyone know if he is still in the Netherlands, I hope the father's family will take over the care.

    Justice at last.

May she now rest in peace.

Bert van D or Bert den D?
Good thing he is suspected of ... People like Peter R de Vries are badly needed, you can see that again.

2007 and now a “solution”? I would call that negligence rather than justice.
