From September 18 to 20, large parts of Thailand will experience heavy to very heavy rain, according to the Thai Meteorological Department.

The showers are caused by Tropical Storm Noul, which is expected to reach the mainland in central Vietnam from China. Torrential downpours with gale-force winds will hit the Northeast first, then the North, the Central region, the East and the South. At the same time, the southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand is gaining strength and bringing more rain.

The Meteorological Department warns that tropical storm Noul may develop into a typhoon. At least 35 provinces will have to deal with stormy weather. Noul's influence even extends to Trang and Satun in the South.

Noul was about 10 km southwest of Danang (Vietnam) at 600 am yesterday. The storm is moving northwest at a speed of 20 km per hour, crossing Vietnam and passing Thailand via the northeast today.

Authorities are warning residents of flood-prone areas to prepare for the storm and possible evacuation. Residents should not take shelter under trees or in houses that are not sturdy.
