Tourist bitten by shark in Hua Hin?
It was rumored on social media that a tourist was bitten by a shark on a beach in Hua Hin. The video, which has since been deleted, showed a man being pulled from the water with multiple injuries to his feet.
The incident is said to have taken place on Sai Noi beach, in the south of Hua Hin. The man was rushed to hospital.
There was a lively discussion on Facebook, among others. Some claimed that the injuries were probably caused by sharp stones on the seabed. Others said it could be the blacktip reef shark.
Sharks do occur in the waters off Hua Hin, but they are small, shy and do not attack humans.
The redeeming word came from the hospital staff. The man's injuries weren't consistent enough for a shark bite. They were probably caused by sharp rocks in the sea.

I just saw that picture and it is certainly not of a rock, to open the top of your foot that much, a lot of force must have been used and that under water???
That's right, the wound also had the profile of a semicircle... I'm no expert, but a shark bite is much more likely than 'rocks' based on the wound photo. But yes, a rock story is better for tourism. The hospital staff also realize this, of course, possibly motivated by this and that person. You can view the photo of the wound here. https://news.thaivisa.com/article/19274/shark-alert-hua-hin-fisherman-says-not-a-question-of-if-but-what-kind-attacked-tourist
Shark bites are extremely rare in Thai waters.
The temperature of the water is much too high for those shark species that are known to (usually unknowingly) attack humans.
That's why I found it hard to believe that this man's injuries happened from a shark attack.
And again the shark is the bitten dog, sad but true hundreds of thousands of sharks are caught and killed for consumption, mainly in Asia.
Slowly this beautiful species is becoming endangered, and for anyone who is afraid of sharks 97% of sharks are harmless to humans.
You could almost say that sharks still have to bite a lot of people before the suffering we have done to this beautiful species has been made up for.
Well, today it is confirmed by Thai fishermen that there are many sharks in the gulf around Hua-hin.
This video even surfaced on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ThaiVisaNews/videos/10157333809313012/
Still a shark, now confirmed
