The Thai Meteorological Department issued a weather warning on Friday morning regarding severe storms expected in all regions except the South. The forecast for bad weather runs from Saturday to Tuesday.

An area of high pressure in central China is expected to spread into northeastern Thailand and into northern, central and eastern Thailand over the weekend.

Thailand will remain under the influence of this high pressure area until Tuesday, which can cause violent storms, possibly with hail.

It can be dangerous on the road during this period. Residents must also take into account damage to houses and goods.

As Sunday there is the annual free market on the embassy grounds on the occasion of King's Day.
Hopefully it will be a storm-free market.

Anyone have any idea how intense these storms are? Arrive in Bangkok on Sunday.

& Rob De Meteo talks about heavy rains and storms, possible hail and dangerous high winds 'that can damage property and claim lives'. The Northeast takes the first blows. Who knows, the high pressure area will weaken after that. That wouldn't be the first time, but it still looks like coffee grounds. I wonder if air traffic will be affected. You almost have to.

you can look at http://www.weather.com/weather/today/Bangkok+Thailand+THXX0002 for the weather in Bangkok. I think you can expect some turbulence.

I think it must be a LOW PRESSURE AREA?

    • Dick van der Lugt says up

@ Martien Website Bangkok Post: A high pressure mass over central China is expected to expand to the Northeast of Thailand by Saturday and later could extend to the North, Central and East regions.

It is now 16 pm here and it is already starting to hum in the air. Thunder, lightning and rains are coming. April is known to us (Nongkhai region) as the time of heavy storms and rains. Then the windows can be put on the brackets and even closed here and there.

Then the power goes out (no one can tell me why….) and the candles can be lit. congratulations!

Fortunately, such a storm often passes quickly.

Well I can tell you why, look at those wires outside!!!!

      • Joost Buriram says up

Most of those wires are telephone wires, they only carry a very small amount of current, only the three at the top are high voltage cables, with a few 220V wires underneath, but I sometimes get the feeling that they turn off the electricity themselves during a thunderstorm.

Furthermore, it is now very quiet here in Buriram 30 degrees. and no wind, but that might be 'calm before the storm'.

  5. Cees says up

Thai Meteorological Department says the following for Buriram Province: During 26 Apr-1 May, widely scattered to scattered thunderstorm with isolated gust and hail.
    Minimum temperature 21-24 °C. Maximum temperature 33-36 °C. Easterly winds 15-30 km/hr.
So the wind forecast is still not too bad. The English word "storm" does not mean the same as the Dutch "storm", we always think of a lot of wind here. There are heavy thunderstorms for the coming week, hopefully the damage will be limited.

  6. Advisory
    “Thunderstorm (During April 26-30)”
    no. 6 Time Issued : April 25, 2014

On April 26, the ridge of high pressure from China will extend to the Northeast of Thailand. By April 30, it will have covered the upper country. Summer thunderstorm, as well as thundershowers, gust and hail, will be expected first over the Northeast, then the North, the Central and the East. People should beware of the severe weather that leads to the loss of lives and properties.

The advisory will be effect on 25 April 2014 at 05.00 pm
