The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has indicated that they expect more than 2023 million European tourists will visit Thailand, which represents a total turnover of 420 billion baht for the country. This amounts to about 80% of pre-pandemic sales and is part of the total sales of 1,5 trillion baht by the end of the year.
TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn emphasized his confidence in Thailand's capacity to remain a top destination for European markets at the ITB Berlin 2023. The ITB Berlin (International Tourismus-Börse Berlin) is the world's largest tourism fair that takes place annually in Berlin, Germany . It is an important event for the travel and tourism industry, where tour operators, hotels, travel companies and other related companies from around the world come together to showcase their products and services and make new business contacts.
Yuthasak is convinced that Europeans still like to go on holiday, and that there is still some catching up to do after the pandemic. That will continue for another 1-2 years. Thailand make efforts to traditional tourist markets such as the United Kingdom, Germany and Russia to keep.
Despite the high expectations, Yuthasak acknowledged that there are still obstacles, such as the war between Russia and Ukraine, the risk of recession, insufficient flight capacity and labor shortage in the tourism industry.
To address these challenges, TAT's “Visit Thailand 2023” campaign will target quality markets seeking more meaningful travel experiences and responsible tourism. The agency also plans to focus on the Middle East and China in the second quarter, which is typically the low season for European tourists.
At the same time, the TAT is planning the length of stay of tourist visas and extend visas on arrival from 30 to 45 days and 15 to 30 days respectively to maintain a consistent revenue stream. However, the plan to extend this visa facilitation from March 31 to the end of the year still requires cabinet approval.
