THAI Airways International has announced that the workforce will be reduced by almost fifty percent and the number of aircraft will be reduced from 102 to 86. The Thai national airline aims to return to profitability in four years.

Due to a major reorganization, the number of full-time employees will decrease from 27.944 to 14.000. The airline expects aviation to return to normal levels by 2024. It was previously announced that THAI suffered a net loss of 141 billion baht (3,8 billion euros) last year.

The Ministry of Finance, THAI's largest shareholder, appears to be supporting the airline's restructuring plan. Director General Pantip of the State Enterprise Policy Office calls the key elements of the plan 'quite acceptable', referring to the raising of new capital, a debt moratorium and the halving of the workforce. The ministry will study the restructuring proposals in detail before taking a final decision.

The Ministry of Finance sold a 2020 percent stake in THAI in 3,17 to reduce the total stake to below 50 percent, making the airline no longer a state-owned company.

Interesting background information in this story, aptly titled 'From national glory to national sorry, the history of Thai Airways International'.

If you can keep 15% fewer aircraft in the air with 50% less personnel in the new situation, then this seems to me to say something about the current workforce.

The penny has finally dropped a bit at THAI. Now the number of routes, although fewer aircraft will automatically mean fewer routes. Let's see if they can make good decisions there.

THAI flew with too many types of aircraft. Since you must be certified separately for each type, this also means a multitude of pilots, who can only be deployed to a limited extent. By reducing the number of aircraft, the excess of (expensive!) pilots can also be reduced to a more normal level.

The next step will also have to be to reduce the number of unprofitable routes. Now (at least pre-Covid) to Oslo, Stockholm and Copenhagen?? That is, so to speak, just around the corner. Ditto Brussels, Paris, Frankfurt. And what about Munich and Zurich (Munich must have a special status). And then also Milan and Rome?? That cannot continue, so I think that the necessary destinations will be canceled, certainly in Europe. guess; Copenhagen, Brussels and Milan. Maybe Munich too.

No more flying to Brussels. The capital of Europe. That's the same as Thai airways not flying to Bangkok. And don't worry, those planes were always full on and off. That was something else with Ethiad. And pilots from SN Brussels airlines fly with the planes of Thai Airways International. But my question is can we fly back this year with Thai Airways International from any city. Now, I do NOT make the journey to a country without having to drive or be fed or take public transportation. All we must first be allowed to enter Thailand and if you are vaccinated you will no longer be quarantined for 14 days. Because otherwise fly so far and only be able to enjoy the local residents and all the things you can see for 14 days. I don't think anyone does that unless you have enough money. Already read everything in the English-language Thai newspapers online. I would dare to go with the Christmas holidays of this yes, but will it be possible to enjoy this country for 1 month where I feel at home even though I have not been there often, but when I come from that airport in Bangkok, I will get I have a feeling of home all over my body, something I no longer have in my hometown.
