Dutch and Belgians happier than Thai
The Dutch and Belgians are happier than Thai, according to the United Nations' annual list of 'happiest countries'. However, the Dutch are slightly less happy than last year and therefore dropped three places in the ranking.
In the previous edition, which was published in 2013, our country was still in fourth place, but now it has to be satisfied with seventh place.
The Netherlands also received a slightly lower score: from 7,5 to 7,4. Incidentally, we are doing better than our neighbours. Belgium can be found in 19th place, Germany only in 26th place. The Swiss live in the happiest country in the world. They took that place from Denmark, which is now in third place. Number two Iceland completes the top three. The 'unhappiest' countries are Togo, Burundi and Syria.
Thailand scores reasonably and is in 24th place.
Among other things, the researchers looked at the years that people live in good health on average, whether people have someone they can count on and the freedom to make life choices. Generosity, corruption and gross domestic product (GDP) per capita also count. The period between 2012 and 2014 was considered.

Very interesting article!
Personally, I believe that Thai people hardly ever complain.
Complaining Belgians are there, but few.
The Dutch, on the other hand, are apparently never satisfied.
Could it be that unnecessary luxury spoils people to such an extent that any lack would be perceived as catastrophic?
I really do not know !
And of course the heat determines a lot for the people. Because you need a fan or air conditioning for 9 months. Or it comes with beacon from heaven. You can dress against the cold, but not against the heat. Thais go to shopping centers because it is cool there. So understandable that Thailand is not that high. And the huge sky fulfillment, And unfortunately also the chaotic traffic.
Ha! And what if it concerns Dutchmen or Belgians living in Thailand? Do they sometimes want to return to the EU 'because they will be happier there'?
Those I have spoken to who have been to NL would like to return to Th as soon as possible.
Air pollution sometimes yes, depending on where you are, but the sense of freedom and safety that still exists in Th and that has been diminishing in the west since 1970 cannot be replaced by the happy western consumer culture! And don't even get me started on the prices!
Call: Who wants to go back to 'Happiness Land'?
It is of course about Thai people living in Thailand and not expats.
Do you know why the Belgians and Dutch are so high on the happiness ladder? Because those who are not happy have the option to live elsewhere and be happy there. Then there will be more people left who are happy in their own country…
This does not apply to the Thai, because they usually do not have the money to feel better elsewhere.
haha! … curious!…according to this list, Thailand scores particularly well…first place of all Asian countries 🙂
Thailand is 2nd
1st place is for Singapore.
Haha… ok Henry thank you…. you right… buy new reading glasses… and still a silver medal for the land of “Smiles” :-)) … why do some Dutch people, some Belgians and all French people always complain… haha… both home base and host country don't score that bad after all!
