Seven dangerous days Songkran: Drunk driving equals murder
It seems that the Thai government is serious about doing something about drink drivers who cause fatal accidents, they are being charged with murder.
On Thawi Watthana-Kanchanaphisek Road in western Bangkok, businessman Somchai drove his Mercedes into the lane of oncoming traffic and collided with a Suzuki Swift. The driver, Deputy Chief of CSD Subdivision 2, was killed instantly, his wife later died in hospital and their 16-year-old daughter was seriously injured.
The perpetrator has been charged with first-degree murder because he was under the influence. Premeditated murder is punishable by death or imprisonment for 15 to 20 years. It is the first case made public by authorities after they announced severe penalties for traffic violations and drunk driving during Songkran.
The businessman has stated that he drank six bottles of beer after playing golf. He says he has no memory of the accident. At the Sala Daeng police station, he was found to have a blood alcohol level of 260, far above the legal limit of 50.

Good, put those guys away
In the meantime this rich drunk driver has already been acquitted of the murder charge, okay 20 years in hotel Bangkok I personally prefer, worst is, daughter has to do without her parents for the rest of her life, money apparently counts more than a human life in Thailand.
According to good Thai custom, the man will also get rid of it with a hefty bribe and, as usual, these "high" people will be covered up. It has been called for years that stricter action will be taken, but little of that is visible ,
His 5 bottles of “beer”…..the liar.
Can't remember what and how much he drank to get to his lethal limit!
Looks like it means 5 bottles of Lao Kaou.
Too disgusting for words this scum that murder entire families for their own convenience / pleasure or sentence them to wear out as disabled for the rest of their lives.
Hang that high.
Strongly agree with strict approach to drink drugs etc. Charge of murder.
However, with premeditation is ordinary legal nonsense. is of course out of the question. Misplaced muscle language that undermines the reputation of the prosecutor. Abuse of authority. Shame.
Good thing! I just think the difference between the death penalty and 15 to 20 years is a bit big. I am against the death penalty in principle. Without a religious background, I think that people should not knowingly dispose of other people's lives.
Murder is always premeditated, otherwise it is manslaughter. And getting behind the wheel with knowingly too much alcohol is indeed almost premeditated. The difference is that with real premeditation, the victim has also been selected in advance. So it's not really murder from a legal point of view, I'm thinking more of culpable manslaughter. As I said, I don't think the death penalty is justified, I think the alternative of 15 to 20 years in prison is too weak. Life imprisonment does justice to the deed. But I think more of a combination of a sentence of a number of years in prison and also exclusion from society for life. to have. Banishment is no longer an option these days. Removal from society is a measure that does not yet exist. This does not have to be a disciplinary prison, but a kind of camp where the person concerned can suffer his life, under humane conditions, but no more than that. So no luxury and no contact. This is just a thought, but it is remarkable that no such measure has been studied anywhere in the world. It would also be an appropriate measure for terrorist attacks. Just; "We don't want you in our midst anymore." If the innocence somehow emerges later, rehabilitation is always possible.
But, as Heineken also propagates in large letters at all Formula 1 competitions: “Never drink when you drive”
By the way, I also agree with the writer of the Songkran entry: Throwing ice cold water at a cyclist or a moped rider is also dangerous and a sensible person knows that!!
Correct!! "looks like it".
The good intentions of the government in Thailand…….always a joke.
Unless you are rich than mighty we have had proof again with that rich businessman with his Mercedes driving a senior police man to death and his wife the police were already called back by the …… government welcome to Thailand
