On Tuesday, the cabinet approved a proposal from the Interior Ministry to keep entertainment venues in Chonburi, Chachoengsao and Rayong open 24 hours a day.
The government's policy of keeping entertainment venues open all night in the three provinces of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) could boost the tourism industry.
“We believe this will benefit local businesses and boost the tourism industry in Pattaya,” Damrongkiat Phinitkan, the secretary of the Pattaya Entertainment and Tourism Association, said on Wednesday.
He added that while the details have yet to be worked out, the proposal will boost the living standards of local communities.
If this project becomes a reality, according to Damrongkiat, Pattaya will be able to compete with other first-class tourist destinations in Europe, South Korea or Japan. He indicated that the new regulations will also help promote tourism in Pattaya, adding that local entrepreneurs are willing to follow government policies regarding tax laws and opening hours.
For example, he suggested that bars and restaurants should be allowed to stay open late into the night, while pedestrian areas could stay open until the early hours. He stressed that the operation of nighttime entertainment venues, provided the new rules are correctly applied, would not have a negative impact on local communities.

Hm,
I think it's quite a horsepower to keep the (entertainment) industry open 24/7. Then you also need a 24/7 tourist flow.
And for various reasons they are not there. The reasons can be diverse; expensive airline tickets, (for some countries) unfavorable currency difference with the Baht, loss of purchasing power in the country of origin …
I also don't think that people working in the nightlife are waiting for 'shifts', which do not yield anything extra in terms of salary anyway.
Best regards,
Even more quality tourists!
They wanted to make Pattaya a place where you can go with your family. Now there are more coffee shops than massage parlors. You smell weed on every corner of the street, now it doesn't matter to me but I can imagine that you don't like to walk through it with your family. Not to mention the kind of tourist that comes to the weed. They often look sloppy and unkempt (not everyone).
Many quality tourists will stay away due to the measures taken. 24hr bars open means even more crime/traffic accidents, not to mention the working conditions.
It now seems that the quality tourists are not coming and they want to target the addicted.
Under the guise let's take a different tack.
Jacq, do you know the saying when the calf has drowned, people fill the well, was a lover of Pattaya, hasn't been there for years, odor nuisance from cars, closing time always different, noise in the bar due to loud music, the politicians here in Thailand don't know how to deal with the tourists, remains a pity, Thailand's skirt blows with all winds.
Dear Jack
I've been coming to Pattaya since 1979, even then there were already "quality tourists" who filled themselves with the most dangerous drugs there are.
The tourists who come for the weed do not cause a nuisance, I can understand that you do not like the smell, but take a look at the following video to give you an idea of how much weed contributes to health damage and / or nuisance
https://www.nu.nl/301636/video/wat-is-het-slechtst-voor-je-alcohol-xtc-cocaine-of-cannabis.html
GeertP,
I didn't watch the video because I really don't care what 'stimulants' are for your own health. We all know that excessive alcohol consumption causes health damage, but that also applies to sugar and, of course, cigarettes. However, their manufacturers are not involved in criminal activities, as is the case with the production and supply of many other drugs. Apart from the fact that addicts to these drugs are often unable to function in society, millions of people worldwide are imprisoned for drug crimes, drug-related robberies and attacks take place in numerous places, and people die every day because of the inter-drug wars. Personally, although irrelevant, I do not use drugs other than the occasional glass of wine or whiskey, preferably during a restaurant visit. That someone else smokes a joint is his/her business. A comparison is hardly possible. However, the significant increase in the number of places in Pattaya where cannabis can be purchased does not seem to me to be conducive to the tourism desired by the authorities.
Moderator: The topic is closing times. Do you want to limit yourself to that?
I think there are knowledge shops all over Thailand. I also think it's a bad thing because it doesn't attract the tourist that Thailand is waiting for.
I have always known Pattaya as the vacation spot for the single man. It is not a nice place at all, the beach is small and the sea water is not very attractive. No one was bothered by those single man tourists and those single man tourists were not bothering anyone. All entertainment is or was geared to that category of people
Yet suddenly Pattaya had to become a place for families. Why actually ? Exactly or families have nowhere else to go. Entire villages are even being built in Europe just for families, following the example of Center Parcs. There are hundreds of seaside resorts in the world where families can go and all facilities are tailored to them. There are also plenty of islands in Thailand that suit families better. I never understood why people don't allow that one city outside some places in the Philippines Cambodia or Vietnam for single men. Those men do not immediately feel at home in Lorret de Mar or Torremolinos.
Let's not forget that the nightclubs are (had) to deal with an endless closing time restriction compared to pre-corona. Now these things can finally start to recover. Partly waterbed effect (the tourists who were there and were looking for nightly entertainment may return) and on paper Pattaya may now have become more attractive. It will not bring in the hordes of extra tourists as the government hopes and as some above fear. Moreover, it does not mean that all businesses will be open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, as not all businesses now use the full opening hours that they have been granted. And last but not least, staff. Where there are already shortages, longer (permitted) opening hours will add little to the business in question. So the way I look at it, scarcity in both visitors and staff of the entertainment industry is becoming even more divisive.
Thailand is for the tourist and family.
The country is big enough.
Pattaya is more for the man who likes fun and sex together with the beach and sun of course.
I think pattaya should not be concerned with luring the tourist in pattaya to come to pattaya but make sure the tourist don't leave.
Liquor and barfine are 2 important everyday things that are getting more and more expensive.
I say be careful otherwise the pattaya tourist will go to Cambodia and there will be little left of pattaya.
We have been coming to Pattaya for many years and just like us and many winter visitors with me, barfine and the beer price are no reason not to come to our "second home".
You and many others look at it from one side and we like many others from the other side.
Bit short sighted, this post. Establishments are allowed to stay open 24 hours pd, but in practice very few will. Things like go-go bars and massage parlors certainly don't. There are not enough staff and the overhead costs are simply too high for that.
And for your groceries you can go to 24-Eleven, Family Mart, etc. 7/7.
I would like to make a comment, more and more winter visitors go to Spain who used to come to Thailand, it is becoming too expensive for many of us here in Thailand, fewer and fewer Europeans are also coming here, but more Russians, Ukrainians, Chinese and Indians, think that Thailand will focus on these groups, for the simple reason that they are many who are here on our globe,
