The government, through the Department of Employment, which falls under the Ministry of Labour, has partnered with 4.000 private companies to create more than XNUMX jobs for senior citizens across the country.

This initiative is a response to Thailand’s transition to an ageing society and aims to provide suitable employment opportunities that match the needs and skills of seniors. The programme focuses on strengthening the financial stability of older residents and promoting their participation in the labour market. By providing jobs that match the experience and capabilities of older people, the project not only aims to create a sense of purpose among this group, but also to reduce the social burden on the state.

The jobs within the program are carefully selected and focus on positions that are not physically demanding or dangerous. Participating companies include well-known names such as PTG Energy, Home Product Center, Central Restaurants Group, CP All, Big C Supercenter and Central Retail Corporation. The available positions include roles such as store clerks, baristas and service personnel. This not only helps to alleviate labor shortages, but also strengthens the economy.

Seniors interested in this program can view job openings and apply through the “Thai Mee Ngan Tum” website or a mobile application. These platforms offer personalized opportunities by matching jobs with users’ skills and knowledge. For additional support, seniors can go to the provincial employment offices, the Bangkok offices, and the Smart Job Center, where they can receive personalized guidance.

For more information about this program or for assistance in applying, interested parties may contact the Department of Labor's hotline at 1506, extension 2, or the Department of Employment hotline at 1694.

Reduce the state's social security contributions by creating 4.000 jobs?
Are benefits in Thailand so high that creating 4.000 jobs will reduce the burden on the state?

I recently read that 65% of graduates are unemployed!
At one point, when my wife was working, there were 4 government jobs available.
    2000 applications were received.
Strange, see how many Myanmar, Cambodians, Laotians etc. are working in the country.
Do they want to employ seniors now?! My 88 year old mother-in-law back to work?!

Only 4000 jobs? And there are probably hundreds of civil servants working on that?
Well, that might yield something, but not really.
The mere thought that something like this would ease the 'tension' on the Thai job market. 🙂

I have an idea, of the 300.000 monks, put 150.000 to work part time, 6 hours a day.
And donate the money they earn to a social fund for needy elderly people.

Another hot air balloon, they better do something about age discrimination, because if you are 38 years old (almost) no company wants to hire you anymore, my wife experienced that 10 years ago when she resigned so she could come to the Netherlands for 6 weeks, luckily she found something at the Pepsi chip factory to spend the time while she was busy with integration.

So when they talk about a worker shortage it's more like a young worker shortage.

I now see this with my sister-in-law who has been working at Western Digital for 17 years and has now become a mother but is also 41. She would like to work closer to home and no longer want to travel 90 minutes (one way), but cannot find anything closer given her age.
That's where the problem lies, I think.
