It took a total of 14 years, but now they have arrived: new city buses for the BMTA, the public transport company in Bangkok.

The first 100 natural gas buses have arrived at the port of Laem Chabang and a second shipment of 29 buses will follow on December 389.

The first hundred will hit the road on December 21. The tendering and purchasing procedure took a total of 14 years, but that should not spoil the fun, says government spokesman Sansern. According to him, the renewed fleet will improve the quality of life and safety of the less well-off part of the population. He expects that more Thai people will now opt for public transport.

The new buses are equipped with many conveniences. For example, there is a special entrance for wheelchair users, there are CCTV cameras in the bus (also to monitor the driver's driving behavior), automatic doors with sensors, GPS and WiFi.

In addition to the natural gas buses, the BMTA also wants to purchase 200 electric buses.

When will those electric buses ever come to pattaya because it is really necessary there, people with respiratory problems can no longer go there, and healthy people run a very high risk of getting problems due to excessive smog and particulate matter
