The Department of Agricultural Development (DAE) has introduced a new application called 'Crops Drought', specially designed to support farmers in combating drought issues.

This innovative tool is part of a broader strategy to limit the adverse effects of climate change on the agricultural sector. After all, this problem has a significant impact on both crop yields and the economy on a broader scale.

Anchalee Suvachittanont, the Director General of DAE, explains that 'Crops Drought' provides users with crucial information such as real-time soil moisture data, weather forecasts and the early identification of drought-prone areas, up to four months in advance. The application is remarkably accurate in predicting crop damage, with an accuracy rate ranging from 73,7% for cassava to a whopping 92,9% for sugarcane.

The 'Crops Drought' app builds on previously developed models for assessing drought risks and their impact on agriculture. It represents a partnership between the department and various partners.

To date, the application has been made available to 450 agricultural volunteers, young farmers and community leaders in nine provinces, including Uthai Thani, Surin and Nakhon Ratchasima, among others. The app can be downloaded from the iOS App Store, Google Play Store and via a special website.
