From the New Year's celebration onwards, entertainment venues in tourist provinces may remain open until 04.00 a.m. This measure is intended to boost the economy, Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said last Monday.

This scheme, an initiative of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, will initially be applied in provinces that are frequently visited by tourists, mainly from abroad. Locations mentioned include Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket. According to Anutin, entertainment venues must be free of criminal activities during the extended opening hours.

He emphasized: “This expansion is aimed at law-abiding people. It is therefore important that people strictly adhere to rules such as not driving under the influence, not carrying weapons and not dealing in drugs.”

He added that young people under the age of 20 are not allowed to enter the venues and that visitors should help prevent fights. “If everyone works together and focuses on entertainment, no problems will arise regardless of the opening hours,” he stated.

Anutin also reported that officials will continue to collect responses to this proposal until December 15, after which the entertainment venue policy will be formally submitted to the Cabinet for approval.

The measure is intended to come into effect in time for the New Year celebrations and to provide a stimulus to the economy.

Fortunately, another step in the right direction, the 2-hour story was much too early,
Many bars and other businesses also close around that time, if you want to do anything then everything is closed.
I myself experienced in the late 80s/early 90s that the Marine bar, among other things, did not close until 630, but this was a really long time ago, and there were not many discos back then.
