Keerdam discharges less water; low risk of flooding
The Chao Phraya dam in Chai Nat has started to discharge less water to alleviate and prevent flooding in the downstream provinces.
The water outflow has been reduced by 15 cms (cubic meters per second) to 1.053 cms. As a result, the water level of the Chao Phraya in front of Ang Thong town hall was only 5,17 meters yesterday and 3,52 meters in the Khlong Phongphan, 4 centimeters more than on Wednesday.
The district chief of Pa Mok (Ang Thong) says that the construction of a new 5-meter-high earthen embankment in tambon Phongphan will prevent flooding if the water level in the Chao Phraya remains below 7,5 meters.
Pathum Thani
In the province of Pathum Thani, hit hard in 2011, the risk of flooding is low. This has emerged from an inspection of canals in two districts. The governor has ordered the removal of water hyacinth, which is obstructing water flow. The weir doors all function 100 percent. Nevertheless, he advises residents to continue to follow the reports of the Provincial Disaster Warning Center.
Ayutthaya
In Ayutthaya province, the water of the Chao Phraya in front of Wat Chaiwattanaram is 1,5 meters below the river bank. Local authorities have instructed their staff to keep a close eye on water levels and stand by to deal with imminent flooding.
In Sena district, the water level of the river Noi has risen due to the water discharged by the Chao Phraya dam. Residents living near the river would be affected. The water in the district is 2 meters high, forcing residents to use boats for their transportation.
Phitsanulok
Heavy rains over the mountains in neighboring Phetchabun province have caused flooding in Noen Maprang. Fields have been flooded. Four buffaloes are said to have been struck by lightning during a thunderstorm.
