The Restaurant Business Association expects more than 200.000 workers to lose their jobs as the government has imposed stricter measures banning eating in restaurants.

In six provinces, restaurants must close their doors to customers from May 1 (takeout is still possible): Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chon Buri, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan.

Ladda Sampawthong, the president of the association, says the new restrictions will have a huge impact on medium to large restaurants as all targeted provinces have many such outlets. She also says customers are more panicked because of the high number of infections from the new wave, compared to previous outbreaks.

During the first two waves, customers ordered food through delivery services or takeout, but now some customers have changed their behavior, Ladda said. Also, more people are choosing to cook at home, resulting in fewer restaurant orders.

About 55.000 restaurants are members of the association, of which about 80% deliver. She predicts that 200.000 restaurant workers are likely to lose their jobs, both in the short and long term, as the pandemic is still some time away.

I really feel sorry for the Thai people, the global pandemic has left much deeper traces in Thailand than, for example, in Europe, because Europe is in a much better economic position and there are safety nets. Many Thai will be thrown back to a level of 20-30 years ago. Lots of poverty and an even bigger gap between rich and poor. This happens to many in the beloved Thailand that will be closed off from the outside world for a long time, causing the misery to come from both sides. On the one hand the pandemic that will kill people on the other hand in an economic sense. Poor Thailand poor people.

Your complaint applies to several countries. Not only Thailand is hit hard. Last night I saw a report on Canvas by Rudi Vrancx about how Bali is defending itself against the socio-economic consequences of corona and the massive absence and collapse of tourism. The resilience shown is an example for Thailand. I wonder how Thailand will be at the end of 2021. But I haven't seen many creative ideas come by yet.

Prayut and his entourage will not become poorer, but if only 0.3% of the population has been vaccinated until now, many Thais will suffer because this will take a long time because the group up to 60 years old are according to the government (many bla blah ) next in August .
