Bank of Thailand less optimistic about export growth and economy
The Bank of Thailand (BoT) is less optimistic about exports. The forecast that it will grow by 9 percent this year is unlikely to be met. The main reasons for this are the trade war between the US and China and a decline in world demand.
The BoT has predicted 9 percent growth, but the growth for the first nine months of this year was 8,1 percent. To meet the forecast, exports must grow by 11,4 percent in the fourth quarter, which may not succeed, according to Pornpen Sodsrichai, director of economic analysis at the BoT.
Tourism
The growth of tourism, Thailand's main growth engine, slowed from 8,4 and 15,5 percent growth in the second and third quarters to a decline of 1,9 percent in September due to a decline in the number of Chinese tourists.
Thailand has fallen out of favor with Chinese tourists since the July boat accident in Phuket. In the third quarter, 230.00 fewer Chinese came to Thailand compared to the same period last year (8,8 percent year-on-year).
