World famous Maya Bay will reopen to tourists in 1,5 months
The beach of Maya Bay, world famous because of the movie 'The Beach', will reopen to tourists on January 1 after a closure of almost 4 years.
The beach on Phi Phi Leh Island is part of the Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Koh Phi Phi National Park, is a bay, measuring only 250 by 15 meters, and has become best known thanks to the movie 'The Beachwith Leonardo DiCaprio. The beach was closed in 2018 to protect nature. It was originally supposed to close briefly, but the closure was extended for a few more years in 2019.
According to Environment Minister Varawut Silpa-Archa, nature has recovered well. Mass tourism was particularly an attack on the fragile coral in the area. To prevent further destruction, stricter rules now apply: speed and longtail boats are no longer allowed to enter the bay, but must moor at a pier on the other side of the island.
Only eight boats are allowed to dock there at a time. No more than 300 visitors may be on the beach at the same time, and they may not stay there for more than an hour. No tourists are allowed in the bay after 16.00:XNUMX PM.

I've been there on a tour, for me they should have skipped it. Waiting on a beach for an hour with a thousand others until you can continue, there is really nothing to do there. Fortunately, the Thai have seen the light, hopefully it stays that way.
