The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has raised its target for Indian visitors this year from 1,4 million to 2 million due to recent changes in COVID-19 regulations by the Indian government.

The Department of Health and Family Welfare of India issued revised measures on Feb. 9, removing pre-departure RT-PCR COVID testing requirements for passengers from Thailand and other countries.

TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn said this means Indian tourist numbers may recover faster than expected, potentially matching 2's 2019 million arrivals by the end of the year.

Thailand has received 2,58 million foreign visitors so far this year, with about 122.300 from India. Countries with a higher number of tourists currently coming to Thailand than from India include Malaysia, Russia and South Korea.

The governor of TAT explained that the number of Chinese tourists is gradually increasing after the resumption of foreign travel for groups on February 6. He noted that limited seating capacity is a problem with airline expansion and added that the number of Chinese arrivals is already rising and will continue to rise in the coming weeks.
