The Thai Cabinet has approved a special visa for foreigners who want to work in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). This visa aims to attract specialists and executives in various sectors to work in the EEC and thus strengthen the country's target industries.
The EEC visa has a validity of ten years, depending on the employment contract. The visa allows multiple entries and exits. Upon first entry into the Kingdom, the visa grants a residence period of up to five years. In addition, the visa scheme offers the benefit of a personal income tax rate of 17%.
The visa scheme is divided into four categories: EEC Visa “S” for Specialists, EEC Visa “E” for Executives, EEC Visa “P” for Professionals and EEC Visa “O” for Others, such as spouses and persons under the supervision of the visa holder.
The cost of obtaining and converting a visa to an EEC visa is 10.000 baht (approximately USD 273) per person per year. The EEC work permit application costs 20.000 baht (approximately USD 547) per person.
The EEC is a special economic zone in three eastern provinces of Thailand, focusing on foreign investment in target industries such as the future automotive industry, smart electronics, health tourism, agriculture and biotechnology, food for the future, robotics and automation, aviation and logistics, biofuels and biochemistry , and medical sectors.

Seemed like something comparable to the LTR visa...
But instead of looking up the differences myself, I let Bing's AI-controlled assistant do its work...
I asked the question what the difference is between an LTR and an EEC visa and this is the answer
“Let's compare the Long-Term Resident (LTR) Visa and the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Visa in Thailand:
LTR Visa:
Eligibility: Open to foreigners who meet specific criteria, such as having a work permit or being a retiree.
Benefits:
Allows long-term residence in Thailand.
No membership fee.
Permits to work in Thailand.
requirements:
Financial information submission.
Health insurance with a minimum coverage of USD 50,000 for the visa holder and dependents.
Duration: Typically 1 year, renewable.
Cost: Varies based on individual circumstances.
EEC Visa:
Eligibility: Primarily for investors and professionals working in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) region.
Benefits:
Streamlined application process.
Fewer conditions compared to LTR visas.
Privileges related to investment and business activities.
requirements:
Investment or employment in the EEC.
No health insurance requirement.
Duration: Linked to the EEC project duration.
Cost: Varies based on the specific EEC project.
In summary, the LTR visa is suitable for those who meet the criteria and want to reside in Thailand long-term, while the EEC visa targets investors and professionals in the EEC region. Consider your personal circumstances and goals when choosing between these two options
