The latest episode of the program “Voices from Thai Kuh Fah,” hosted by Prime Minister’s Advisor Jirayu Huangsap, highlighted recent government initiatives to improve the quality of life of Thai citizens.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra recognized the urgent need for affordable housing across Thailand and ordered several ministries to assess the suitability of state-owned land for housing projects. The government is also considering extending the lease terms for public land, which could give citizens better access to financing and allow more families to establish permanent residence.

During a meeting with top officials, the prime minister urged the Ministry of Finance to accelerate the disbursement of funds, especially for investment projects that will boost economic growth. She also stressed the need for robust data integration between government agencies, in line with Thailand’s digital government initiative, to make public services more efficient. In view of rapid urban expansion, the Ministries of Industry and Home Affairs are reviewing urban planning measures in the Eastern Economic Corridor, which should lead to a balanced growth model that caters to both industrial and residential needs.

For farmers recently affected by floods, the Cabinet has approved more than 2,5 billion baht in funding. The funds are aimed at supporting rice production, pest control and livestock rehabilitation. Affected farmers are encouraged to contact their local authorities to apply for the support.

During the Greater Mekong and Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Summit, the Prime Minister reiterated Thailand's commitment to regional cooperation in water management, financial stability and anti-drug trafficking measures. She also discussed Thailand's progress in digital remittances, which has simplified cross-border transactions within the Mekong region.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn reaffirmed Thailand's sovereignty over Koh Kood, citing the historic 1906 treaty with France that affirmed Thailand's territorial rights in the area. She assured the public of the government's commitment to defending the country's borders.

As of August 31, Thailand's public debt stands at 11,7 trillion baht, equivalent to 64,02% of GDP, well within the policy limit of 70%. The government continues to focus on economic growth by boosting the tourism, manufacturing and trade sectors as a way to further stabilize the economy.

On a lighter note, a celebration was recently held at Government House in honor of “Moo Deng,” a pygmy hippopotamus that delighted the prime minister and highlighted Thailand’s cultural and tourism efforts. Paetongtarn will continue her diplomatic efforts next week at the APEC summit in Lima, Peru, where she will focus on strengthening Thailand’s international relations and economic growth.
