Three Russian women aged 34, 32 and 26 have been arrested for working in a beauty salon without a work permit. Phuket Police investigated complaints about foreigners working as hairdressers in Phuket's Patong, Kathu district, which is one of 27 professions explicitly prohibited for foreigners.

The business is located at 200 Pee Road, Rat Uthit and is run by a Thai woman. A male barber named Osamh also works there. When police visited the business on July 19, he was clipping tourists.

The police then requested to see Osamh's entry documents for the Kingdom of Thailand and his work permit. It turned out that Osamh had no work permit. He is of Jordanian nationality and admitted that he has worked as a hairdresser in the salon.

Osamh, who does not have a work permit, was arrested and taken to Patong Police Station for documentation of the arrest and to inform him of the charges and his rights.

Police also investigated a beauty salon in Phuket's Choeng Thale district, Thalang, where three Russian women worked or had worked as beauticians without work permits.

Recently, the Ministry of Labor has called on employers and foreign workers to strictly comply with the law. Employers who hire foreign workers without a work permit or allow them to perform unauthorized work risk fines of 10.000 to 100.000 baht per illegally employed foreign worker.

Repeated violations can lead to a prison sentence of up to one year and/or fines of 50.000 to 200.000 baht, as well as a ban on hiring foreign workers for a period of three years. Foreign workers who work without a work permit or engage in unauthorized activities risk fines ranging from 5.000 to 50.000 baht and face deportation.

This is undoubtedly the prelude to more checks on those types of visas (and the visa offices) that can easily be used in an improper way, such as student visas, elite visas, but also retirement visas. (See the biker gang members in Phuket)

This is not about Visa at all, but about work permits, completely different things. You also do not read anywhere that they are illegally staying in Thailand….

As long as you pay under the table you have protection and they leave you alone.
That is always here and everywhere.
The neighbour's house has just been painted by illegal Burmese, led by a legal foreman.
The Burmese get 90Bht a day.
The farang paid Bht 150000 and his wife illegally pocketed Bht 50000.
The barrel goes to the foreman who pays 50000 of it to H Hermandat, pays for the illegal immigrants and the materials and puts the rest in his pocket.
For the same job I pay a Thai 60000Bht all in.
The hairdresser failed to cheat on Phuket.

Chris it's not about visas, I've known for a long time that many iligals work in Thailand, many from neighboring countries of Thailand, they do the work that no Thai wants to do, the local authorities turn a blind eye to that, maybe that will . Also for monetary compensation.
Just want to make it clear that there is a lot to arrange in this country as long as you bring your wallet, and for your information you can simply buy visas at most immigration, without using intermediaries, live and let live.

I don't know if the relationship in your story is real, Andrew.
The foreigner must be very 'blind' or naive.
But the buying off in itself is normal in Thailand whatever it is, illegal work, opening hours et cetera.
The men's police just see that as their income, whether you agree is not the question.
I have been told that a large part is used as an [early] retirement pot or even worse family support agent in the event of death.
Experienced this up close in the shopping street, the shop paid 500 Baht every month [cigarettes / beer sales without a license and outside sales hours] stopped paying after two months, the shop had an official report with a thick fine.

Corruption at the top trickles down. What generals do on a large scale, the commies do with smaller amounts. Do you blame them? Police officers, especially at the beginning of their careers, only earn a penny and have to buy their own uniform and service weapon.

Police recently tried to earn “trinking money”.
I passed a checkpoint, which I have passed many times and never pulled over.
Until recently, I was not aware of any harm, drove neatly 75 km / h in the left lane.
        And was put aside.
I reported with my Thai wife to the agent who issued the fines.
The charge was that I was driving with the phone in my hands and talking on the phone while driving.
The officer was shocked when my wife, who is 100% Thai, but does not look Thai, told him that the phone had certainly not been used while driving.
Oh, oh, he stammered, then the inspector on the side of the highway must have seen it wrong, go ahead, he said with a sour face.
If I hadn't had my wife with me I could have docked nicely!

I drive very often, sometimes weekly, on the road to Udon Thani past a police station.
Never have a problem as the car number plate indicates we are from Bangkok (which is no longer the case) and apparently that inspires awe.
Once a month, women buy a set of 1 bottles of M6 for 150 baht at 90Eleven. We then stop at the police check, although that is not necessary and give the police officers the set.
They are happy with it, recognize the car now and never have a penny of pain.

            Chris.

Funny the check point I describe is on highway 22, 7 km before Udon Thani thv Phra That Phon Thong, my car also has a Bangkok license plate, we may be talking about the same check point, I pass it every week and never pull over set until recently.
It is noticeable that for the most part Pickups are put aside.

Foreigner is indeed very naive, but there are so many like that.
Two wives and proud of his bank balance. The second wife has just been bought off by the other. At the expense of the foreigner.
Police officers really need that. Mean pension. I've seen black and white before.
Do agree with it. Is their life in their country.
When shuffling, they sometimes go hard, don't stop at a ticket.
      Blood on the pole.
