The sexual preferences of Thai men and women are often confusing for foreigners. A cartoon-like diagram that makes clear how sexuality works in Thailand was a big hit on social media.

Sexual Preferences

In the Netherlands, sexual preferences are less complicated. You have gays, lesbians, bisexuals and straights. There will be some derivatives of that, but then you've had it. In Thailand there are clearly more tastes and preferences. The diagram even shows 11 sexualities and 3 derivatives thereof.

Most of these categories are simple, but some of the terms are certainly new to us. For example, an 'Adam' is a man who likes to brag and isn't picky. He does it with ladyboys but also with a female Tom. A 'Cherry' is a woman who likes gays.

Tom, Dee, Kings, Queens and Cherrys

The rest of the male categories are straight, bi, ladyboy, and gay. Gay men in Thailand can again be further divided into the subcategories of sexually dominant 'King' (or 'Rooks') and sexually submissive 'Queens' (or 'Rubs').

For women there are the categories: straight, Tom, Dee, bisexual, lesbian, and Cherry's. The word 'Tom' is probably derived from the English word 'Tomboy', but in Thai it implies a sexual preference for Thai women. A 'Dee' is a woman who enters into a relationship with a Tom.

Do you still get it?

With posts like this I always ask myself: what is the message? Everyone to Thailand because everyone can get their money's worth there? When I look at 'sexual preferences' I think that kind of cigarette pack scheme could be scribbled down for a lot more places on this globe. However, if this theme suggests that Thais are also unique in their sexual preferences or that only Thailand has a unique third gender, then I say: come up guys, look a little further around you than the oppressive borders of this country.

The schedule and accompanying text were drawn up in Thai and have been translated into English. It is especially a 'hot item' with the Thai on social media. So apparently Thais find this kind of subject very entertaining.
Incidentally, the Dutch readers also if you see how often it has been read…

      See the comments here;

Originally appearing on the forum Dek-D, the diagram provoked some humorous comments. A brief survey of the comments suggests that the diagram raises more questions than it answers.

“I am confused with my sexuality,” wrote user Jutjutjut.

“Which group do I belong to?” asked Jamiko.

“Kids of the next generation might be profoundly confused given the large number of sexualities,” wrote user 555.

Thankfully, plenty of only groups exist to clarify and support the smorgasbord of sexualities in Thailand.

The mission of Boy's Love is to “support Thai boys to love on another.”

Similarly, the mission of the Lesbian Association (Men Not Welcome) [editor's note: actual name] is to support Thai girls to love one another.

The Tom, Dee, Lesbian and Bi Association of Thailand denies following the “trend of Tom and Dee” and “seriously and sincerely” want to be in relationships with females.

The Association of Toms and Dees Who Hate Men takes a more militant stance due to frequent animosity between men and toms.

Adams also have their own Facebook group, The Boys Love Tomboys.

Maybe something for a next poll? Which of the 14 groups do you place yourself under?

I'm missing a few, so this short list doesn't get me excited. A bit limited choice here, but every disadvantage has its advantage: you don't have to go to Thailand for a bit of fun sex.

I like such postings, we live in Thailand and you can also know what is going on. The groups do not differ much from those of Western countries, except for the 3rd gender, and all have a (nick) name, but not specifically characterized as a group, such as this picture of the Thais.
Facebook….you can see that it is alive, so it is interesting for a large population group.
@Hansgelijense, you are not obliged to respond to an article, if you don't like it, just skip it. It is also not placed to get excited about it but informative. I do know which group you belong to, unfortunately only 1 'like' for you, I have more 'likes' ;)

Moderator: comment on the article and not just each other.

Moderator: What you mention has nothing to do with preferences and is therefore irrelevant.

I knew that the sexual preference of the Thai was much more extensive than ours, in Thai history it is described that people had about 8 different sexualities, but that it had become so many is new to me.
Interesting, I myself just stick to a straight woman.
    That's more than enough….
