Ghosts don't exist. Or….?
My father-in-law was a convinced Buddhist. Even mosquitoes were not beaten to death by him. He had his own Buddha room where he regularly spent an hour in the evenings to converse with the Buddha.
His most prized possession was a necklace to which about ten Buddha amulets were attached. Many already knew him for his excellent game on the kaen. He was invited to almost all important parties. This was also the case for a gigantic party of approximately three hundred men from a notable from the area.
At the end of the game, he was shocked to discover that he had lost the necklace. How, was a mystery to him since he, as a convinced Buddhist, does not consume alcohol. Inquiries with persons known to him present at the party yielded no results.
After five days he finally had time to talk to his Buddha again. He told his Buddha that he was extremely sad as he had lost his necklace. However, the Buddha informed him: No, the necklace was found by Mrs. Noy and Mrs. Dara.
My father-in-law was surprised, he didn't know either lady and inquiries yielded no results. A week later he met a second cousin and asked him if he knew the ladies Noy and Dara. Yes, said his cousin, I know him.
Von Toden betruebt nach himmelhoch jauchzend, quickly rented a car and went to Mrs. Noy with his cousin. Unfortunately, Mrs. Noy denied finding the necklace, but after much insistence, she said that Mrs. Dara had found a necklace.
Both gentlemen knocked on Mrs. Dara's door and she could not deny that she had found the necklace as it was hanging around her neck. After a long negotiation and handing over some bills, my father-in-law got the necklace back.
However, one amulet was missing. That was right, as Mrs. Dara had given it to Mrs. Noy. Back to Mrs. Noy and yes, after some talking and again handing over some money, father-in-law got this amulet back.
In short: My father-in-law did not know the ladies, his Buddha told him the names and only after more than two weeks did he find out their address. Could there be something more between heaven and earth than we suspect?

I also experienced something similar in the village of Ban Kud Khapun Neua at 17km from Nakhon Phanom on the Mekhong River in the extreme north-east of Isan.
I was walking in the rice fields with my daughter on my arm and we fell unluckily.
nothing bad but a while later I noticed that I had lost my sunglasses.
look for it in those rice fields!
afterwards a fierce argument with my stupid wife, because I had fallen, my wife approached a local "seer" and he knew exactly where I had lost those glasses!
yet I had some doubts; maybe he had seen me in the distance, but still very strange…
my wife, now ex, also had those "gifts"! you couldn't hide anything or she found it! my Belgian/Thai daughter, now of age, also claims that! Thailand is a weird place and you should always respect that culture…
My wife always knows exactly how much money I have left in my purse, while I have no idea how much money she has in her purse.
she also knows exactly where to find my purse, wherever I keep it.
When we see a beautiful young lady, she knows how to read my mind flawlessly.
Unfortunately with the state lottery, she never manages to guess the winning number.
Perhaps she has long since secured the winning lottery ticket.
We are all body, mind and soul, aren't we? Has also been proven almost 2000 years ago by that man because of whose birth we celebrate Christmas. So nothing new under the sun.
Of course, Buddha could have just made sure that he hadn't lost that necklace.
You should expect that from Buddha if you talk to him every day.
Let me tell you a little secret Egon.
There are gentlemen on this globe who do not always get what they want at home in all kinds of areas.
Most of them you can identify, some you can't.
Home then of course and yes, there are even many gentlemen who don't have a 'home'.
Depends a bit on the status you and your friends have given yourself.
There are ladies on this globe who are quite willing to solve these kinds of problems for a small fee.
Those ladies also often don't want to know 'home' so they give themselves a different name and location.
Because gentlemen sometimes have problems with that because their wishes are not allowed to ask here either, the ladies usually ask a second cousin or something or who wants to keep an eye on things every now and then.
Even if you have forgotten to bring your change or belongings or if you have accidentally not paid enough.
Of course time is money, so these 'unknown' ladies and gentlemen naturally ask for a small fee on top of the payment already made.
Everyone happy again no one overly discussed in the village.
And Buddha has scored another point.
william,
I know one who lost, actually forgot, his dentures.
Miraculously, I was able to retrieve it the next day, thanks to a young lady who found it.
I don't know if the lady in question received a reward or if she had already received it the night before.
All's well that ends well.
And what was Buddha's telephone number? Every religion uses this nonsense to get more customers and of course the gullible fall for it with both feet. We call them miracles. I call it superstition…
There is certainly more between heaven and earth than we, Westerners, think and think we know with our rationality.
We are not trained to use our minds, only our brains.
I have not a few but dozens of examples (from very close range) that cannot be explained with our rational (scientific) knowledge, but that did happen.
My wife has a sixth sense that she does not use commercially (for money) but occasionally, when she really thinks it is necessary. For example, when tracking down evidence of a crime or a missing person. With that information (knowledge) she knows how to find the right people who can do something with it.
Real Buddhism has no ghosts (just ask Buddha or the internet). However, Thai Buddhism is a mixture of animism and Buddhism. Just look at the many spirit houses, tree spirits, etc
It is more likely that the father-in-law, in his days with Buddha, checked all his attendances at the party, who, where, how, etc. and came to the conclusion that only Noy and Dara could have (found?) the necklace.
But it sounds so much better to say that Buddha told him this in a confidential conversation 🙂
'There is certainly more between heaven and earth than we, Westerners, think and think we know with our rationality.'
It is clear that reason cannot explain everything. But I don't think it has anything to do with West or East. In the United States, between 60 and 80 percent believe in God, and therefore in all the miracles and magic that such faith entails. In the Netherlands, about 25 percent believe in God, 40 percent doubt and 35 percent definitely believe in a deity.
Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism are relative to highly rational beliefs. The Buddha used almost exclusively rational arguments.
East and West both know reason and faith apart from reason. That we, Westerners, and they, Easterners, differ fundamentally in this area is incorrect. That's what reason says.
