Dear readers,
I wonder what requirements are made in Thailand for volunteers at the tourist police? I think you must be able to speak English well, don't you? Well recently I talked to such a volunteer and his English was not good. I also had the idea that he spent more time behind bars than in front of bars? Are those people checked and screened for good behavior, past, etc?

It depends on which tourist police office . I worked in the FPV at the Royal Thai Police office for 2 years. That is a completely separate service for assisting as a volunteer to do translation. The requirements are proof of good conduct and morals and a police report, with the correct translations. The other tourist police service that you regularly see on the streets have fewer requirements to be part of their group. I can't say much about that, just have a bit of a strange impression from some. They only do patrols on the road as far as I know, like in Walkingstreet Pattaya.

I speak of the Tourist Police Pattaya because I was voluntary there at the time.
You must have a long-term visa (retirement visa…)
Good English speaking and knowledge of Thai is welcome but not required.
You must be able to provide a clean criminal record.
Also know that you have to pay for all clothing and equipment (handcuffs, matrak, etc.) yourself and that there are no benefits associated with it as a voluntary worker.
