Dear readers,

I want to start taking the anticoagulant Warfarin. Are there any Belgians or Dutch people here who use these? Where do you go for blood tests? Thrombosis service or hospital to check your INR?

Please share your findings as well as the price.

With kind regards,

Patrick

I have been on Warfarin for years (since 2007), after a thrombosis and then pulmonary embolism after a long flight from Hong Kong to Las Vegas with several layovers in Narita and LA. In the end, a cardiologist in Hong Kong later decided that I would have to use thinners for life. So I still do and I check that every two weeks with my own measuring device (LaRoche). INR is almost constant around 2,5 based on 1,5 mg Warfarin per day (after breakfast) (half a pill of 3 mg). I buy the Warfarin (jar of 100 x 3 mg tablets) in Thailand (last time I thought THB 570). Is not for sale at all pharmacies, but the larger pharmacies have it in stock. I assume that, if you don't measure yourself, you can do this in any hospital. Incidentally, the measuring device costs about Euro 700,- and then about 5-6 Euro per analysis strip. Device life is, for example, 5 years and is therefore 125 measurements, and is therefore a depreciation of approximately 6 euros per measurement. So in total about 8-12 euros per meeting. Did a measurement in the Netherlands and that cost Euro 10, -, but measuring yourself saves you a lot of transport and waiting time.
    I hope this helps you.

Thank you very much for your information, but this solution seems unsuitable and too expensive for me.
      Kind regards.

If you live in Pattaya or the surrounding area, go to Clinic Lifecare Laboratory in a side street of Third Road in Pattaya Tai.
Cost 400 baht. Fingertip prick testing.
In a hospital you pay about 1800 baht.

Checked this and it's ok, thanks for the tip

    Patrick,

Your question is very short sighted. Wafarin is not a drug that you just want to use. This medicine is fatal if used incorrectly. You do this in consultation with a doctor. You also do not indicate which area you live in.

If you formulate your question more clearly and carefully, I may be able to provide you with information about where you can buy the cheapest drug in Thailand without a doctor's prescription. The price can differ 100%. As well as the INR test ranges from 350 bath to 2500 bath.

Be a bit clearer and give your email or phone number or do you want readers to openly expose their privacy about their health here and you don't give any information.

Peter Peterke I am in the autumn of my life and absolutely do not ask readers to openly disclose their privacy about their health , my own problem is enough that I will not make a study of others , please act normally and I do not even see the reason where you even get this information, that being said.
For the first time I use edoxaban / pradaxa and after informing doctor Maarten who confirmed to me that I could switch to Warfarin, I am looking for all the information about this product and the research, the blood thinners that I now use cost me 3600 to 4200 bath per month .
Warfarin costs about 500- 650 baht for 100 pcs but you have to have blood work and an INR test cost I read between 400 to 2500 baht let's assume now that I have to take 2 pcs a day and once an INR test then I'm probably better finished with my current medication as I don't have a blood test so no relocation that is the reason for my question.....so I'm trying to find a product that is still 50% cheaper
And yes i live in thl in pattaya

I use Warfarin but I measure and dose myself. Have you ever done a course at the Thrombosis Service and do the blood test yourself every 3 weeks and send the results by internet to the Thrombosis Service in the Netherlands.

      The Best
Is it absolutely necessary to inject every three weeks?
Or do you do this to establish a certain safety and if so what are the measured values after 3 weeks, has this changed or will it remain stable.
      With thanks.
      Patrick

      • hanshu says up

Every two weeks is the standard at my thrombosis service. With long-term stable values, I can go to three weeks. Usually I'm pretty stable when I eat normally. When traveling between Holland and Thailand, he sometimes wants to slip out, including with the flu, fever and/or use of AB.

I use Eliquis costs 77 thbt per pill 2x a day, is about 4600 thbt per month. So very expensive. So I'm also looking for self-pricks. Cardiologist regrets(sic) that I want to switch, but sees no medical objections, wants to help with the initial adjustment, then myself. With INR between 2.5 and 3.5 no extra action. Just the normal checkup at the cardiologist. I do this twice a year, so there are no additional costs when switching.
Device https://shop.coaguchek.com/products/coaguchek-inrange, costs 12300 thbt ex vat. Lifespan 6 years and use 12 times a year, costs 170thbt per month.
Strip 1x per month 120 thbt per month. Lancet negligible.
Pills 600 thbt per 100, needed per month 60, so per month 360 thbt.
So together 650 thbt per month. So the choice is not so difficult. Only buy in GB, but it will work

  7. Klaas says up

    Supplement.
If the purchase in GB does not work, it can certainly be done here. https://www.ebay.com/itm/COAGUCHEK-XS-SYSTEM-INR-MONITORING-KIT-WITH-20-LANCETS-POINT-OF-CARE-TESTING/201313170299?epid=1639585965&hash=item2edf33337b:g:3q0AAOSwx95bBlsH:rk:5:pf:0
Monthly costs increase by approx. 25 thbt to 685 thbt.

I measure my INR myself, with a device that I have borrowed from Trombovitaal. Is paid by health insurance – basic package.
I email the measured INR to Trombovitaal and I receive a medication schedule back in no time

  9. proppie says up

I used Accenocoumarol and a loaner device Coagucheck from the thrombosis service.
€187 was charged per quarter. After problems about an itemized bill, the fact that I was required to have the device calibrated once a year in the Netherlands and problems with transport to and from the Netherlands, I stopped doing that and have now been using Wafarin 4 mg for over 2,5 years. me 200 days with a jar of 650 baht. I visit a cardiologist in the Chaiyaphum RAM hospital once every 2 months and pay for it including INR test (blood test) 728 baht and that brings me to 472 baht per month.
That seems like half the cost to me
