Where are you not allowed to smoke in Thailand?
Dear readers,
I want to go on holiday to Thailand with a friend in April. But now I saw that you are not allowed to smoke everywhere. Like where is that not allowed? Because I don't want to get in trouble for smoking a nice cigarette, and I get arrested.
I read somewhere that you also have to go to jail for a year? Now that is quite worrying.
Greetings,
Tamara
It seems to me that going to Thailand is a great opportunity to quit smoking.
To the best of my knowledge, it has now been banned almost everywhere.
On the beach, except in certain smoking areas, in restaurants, hospitals, in temples, in schools, and possibly near schools, in government buildings, on the street, if you do not have an ashtray with you, to collect the ashes and butts do it, because then you have to throw your butt on the street, and there is a hefty fine, and maybe in your hotel room.
Not everything is strictly enforced in Thailand, but that was not the question, and you don't know that in advance.
They have removed that year of prison for smoking on the beach, but there is still a hefty fine.
Fortunately, the air is still full of fumes from poorly tuned diesel engines and asbestos particles from the eternite corrugated iron roofs, so there are still plenty of opportunities to get lung problems.
Well well Ruud … are you an ex-smoker?
There will be a new law that prohibits smoking within a radius of 5 meters in public areas. However, this has not yet been implemented (and there is always a chance that it will not be implemented). Throwing your cigarette at the feet of a cop on the street ... yes, then you have the chance to be fined (2000 Bht).
You can also smoke everywhere on the street and at many bars and restaurants there are tables with ashtrays at the front. So don't worry ... you can just enjoy that cigarette 🙂
That's right, as a smoker from the Netherlands and who is on holiday in Thailand. I always carry small collapsible ashtrays with me. I am an Indonesian (brown colored), so I can also be mistaken as a Thai, but then I walk demonstratively when I smoke with my ashtray, also here in the Netherlands.
Just act like me. Take into account your surroundings and the others.
No problem for the rest.
Also no problems on the beach, on the market, on the street, ... anywhere, unless there is a prohibition sign.
And they are usually in the same places as in B or Nl.
It is strictly forbidden on the beach, except in the clearly marked smoking areas.
At markets it is arranged locally; to avoid risk do not smoke!
In the vicinity of schools (300 -500 meters) no alcohol, no smoking.
Is not indicated, because it is assumed that everyone knows!
Malls no smoking.
Hotels offer rooms for smokers. Other rooms are for non smokers!
I've been in Thailand for 4 weeks and just smoke my cigarette outside. I can smoke in my hotel room, I can smoke by the pool. Restaurants have special smoking corners. The bars, pubs can be smoked or have a separate corner.
Shopping centers, etc., smoking is prohibited.
Great ones from Pattaya,
Willem
you can get a fine, especially in Bangkok, the police pay attention to that
I know people who have been fined
luckily I don't smoke myself Regards E Thai
Hi I have been going to Thailand for 16 years now,
It's not too bad actually it's the same in Thailand as in other countries you can smoke on the street (certain places such as airport hospital and restaurants) you have neatly marked places where you can smoke your cigarette quietly (you will get a fine or punishment there not if you just act like you do in the Netherlands) you really shouldn't worry about that.
Have a nice holiday by the way
It already starts on your flight to Thailand, which, regardless of the booked airline, is at least between 11 am and 15 pm.
Furthermore, it is prohibited almost everywhere where you additionally burden other contemporaries who already suffer from general air pollution and further pollution.
So in short, apart from a few places that are specially equipped for this, almost everywhere.
Although many smokers here certainly think otherwise, I certainly find the smoking ban in a Restaurant a boon for anyone who wants to enjoy their food.
I remember years ago, when the ban did not yet exist, a couple in a restaurant in Phuket who asked me very kindly if my table still had room for two people, and because they seemed very friendly I agreed that they could seat me. could take.
We quickly got into conversation, and after 5 minutes the lady asked if I had anything against her going to smoke a cigarette.
Since I had no food on the table yet, and assuming she was polite enough to put out her cigarette when my meal arrived, I agreed.
In retrospect, my biggest mistake, because shortly afterwards her husband also started to light one cigarette after the other, just like her.
Even when my food arrived, and we had long been trapped in an almost impenetrable fog, the incipient politeness was suddenly gone.
The ashtray was almost overflowing with stinking butts, and although they saw that I turned my face away from the stench of smoke, they happily continued to smoke.
Therefore, while I do not want to generalize, in order to prevent these rude situations, which some smokers no longer control or possess, I think it is good that the State intervenes with a ban.
At the hotels there are places where you can smoke yourself a seat. And you can buy a small ashtray with a closure that fits in the handbag or pocket. At the airport outside, not in temples or outside and never smoke with an ashtray near portraits of the Thai royal family. Also not at the weekend market in Bangkok, but outside the gate again.
We went again with our smoking son last May and he just asked everywhere if it was allowed. At the airport, someone even walked with him all the way to show where the smoking area was. It's also just a bit of logical thinking and taking each other into account
One more must be added. The E cigarette is banned in Thailand, and there are very hefty penalties
It seems that many Westerners in Thailand have not yet realized that there is a smoking ban in restaurants. In restaurant “Ons Moeder” in Jomtien, for example, there are many indecent Dutch people who – while families are eating at a table next to them – light up a cigarette without asking. I stopped eating there because of the bizarre rudeness of compatriots who ruin my meal and don't even have the decency to ask nicely if anyone has any objections. VERY selfish people, yuck!
The owner does not seem to know the law: it says that in restaurants, on open-air terraces in THOSE places where food and drinks are served, smoking is NOT allowed.
In fact, the owner can be fined 25.000 baht (approximately) if he does not have "no smoking" signs up.
It is very striking that in many Thai restaurants (eg the one at Rabbit Resort and another one at Dongtan Beach) there are signs and there is a separate smoking area. These are open-air restaurants.
I just came back from Bangkok smoking everywhere on the street almost no Police to be seen on the Sukhumvit also smoking Mopeds are driving on the sidewalk there was also 5000 bath only Bla Bla Bla .
See the Thais smoking butts en masse everywhere and they are also thrown everywhere, even cops I see smoking.
