Dear readers,

I want to go to Thailand around mid April for 4/5 months. Where can I book an open ticket? Not every travel agency has open tickets.

Please respond.

Regards,

Guillaume

Just book with an airline. Of course, open tickets – tickets with a long validity period where you can change the return journey at will – are more expensive than tickets with restrictive conditions. Those tickets fall into the most expensive category. The travel agencies or ticket dealers often only sell the cheapest tickets and these entail restrictions.

You can also book a one-way ticket and in Thailand a one-way ticket to the Netherlands. I did that myself last year and a Norwegian acquaintance who only buys a few tickets. Then when you leave you can simply take a ticket as desired. I wonder if it is that much more expensive.

Norwegian is one of the few airlines where a single ticket is also about half the price, with many other companies you simply pay the return price for a single ticket.

At least, that was the case before corona.

If all goes well, if you book now with KLM, you can change your flight for free

Book a ticket with KLM, for example. Read small print. Change return date if you are in Thailand.

Book a return ticket with an airline for which you can change the travel dates for free. I fly a lot with Etihad and they always indicate that changes are unlimited. But within the same ticket class. Many airlines are now much more flexible than before covid.

A number of airlines - such as Qatar Airways - offer (or offered) the possibility to convert the booked dates free of charge due to Corona vicissitudes. Might be worth checking if that's still possible.
