First time to Thailand, how much does a taxi cost?
Dear readers,
On May 5th we (60+) are going to see what Thailand is like. Some colleagues have been there several times and provided some photos and tips. We arrive in Bangkok around 12:40 PM local time. On the advice of colleagues, we first acclimatize in Bangkok for 3 nights, hotel is reserved. Does anyone know what is a reasonable price for a taxi to the hotel in Bangkok?
Then we fly very early (06:45 am) with a scheduled flight from Don Muang Airport to Krabi, but I do not get an answer at what time we should be at Don Muang at the latest, 1 hour or 2 hours before departure? Maybe someone else has an answer to that too.
Another question is whether I arrange a taxi in advance or whether I have to / can arrange it myself in the morning?
Finally, what is a reasonable price for a taxi from Krabi airport to Ao Nang?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Elly and Cees
Hi, yes what a taxi costs is hard to say. Where in Bangkok is the hotel?
If you land at Krabi, there is a ticket office in front of the exit that sells bus tickets to Ao Nang and drops you off at the hotel. Last year I paid I think 150 THB per person.
Have a nice holiday,
Gr Any.
Send an email to the hotel where you will be staying in BKK. Most hotels have their own limo service. You pay more than when you go by taxi, but you are assured of a reliable transfer.
Arrange 1 month in advance on the internet on the site at Thaicall-taxi driver is ready at the airport at exit 3 with your name tag, you pay on arrival hotel or apartment, we have been doing this for more than 15 years.
My son and I together always paid 200 baht for each ride, anywhere. And always arrange a taxi from the hotel reception. Much more reliable.
Does the hotel in Bangkok not provide shuttle, taxi service?
Is there no information on the flight ticket or accompanying papers about what time to check in at Don Muang Airport?
Just go down 1 floor at the airport and walk out.
You can draw a number there and the rest is self-explanatory.
As soon as it is your number's turn, you walk to the taxi, give the name of the hotel and say that the meter must be turned on. I've never experienced the driver not turning on the meter, so that's all right. The price will be around 400 baht depending on the traffic.
You pay the toll along the way, at the toll gates you can see how much that is.
If the meter says 350 baht you have to pay 400 because the driver has to pay 50 baht to pick up people at the airport.
I always email the hotel and ask for the address in Thai. I print that out and give it to the driver along with the hotel phone number. If the driver cannot find it, he can always call.
It is best to arrange a taxi from the Netherlands via the internet.
It is very busy at the airport there and sometimes difficult to get a taxi.
So I can't imagine that there are no taxis available…
The taxi from the Intern. airport to Bangkok city costs around 350-500 B (incl. highway toll). Ask if the meter can be turned on, but that almost always works well at the airport. Change some euros (eg 1 or 2 notes of 50 ) at Superrich or withdraw something at the airport, not too much because the exchange rate is slightly worse. Go down 1 floor for the taxis! You have to take into account that 50 B will be added due to the fact that the taxi has already paid this to be able to pick you up there. The cost is so low that you don't have to worry about the price. (1 euro is now about 35.70 B).
Leave on time from the hotel to Don Muang !!!! That road can also be very busy at night. ask the hotel where it takes to Don Muang, add 15 minutes and arrange your taxi a day before you go. (Prefer not to do it at night). The hotel may be able to arrange something for you, just ask the night before. Advice: plan to be at DonMuang at least 90 minutes before departure! Preferably already checked in online and with a printout (ask the hotel to print it) with you, that saves some time. Some airlines have a solid check-in line at DonMuang, even if you have checked in online. Keep an eye on the above and you should be fine, better wait at the airport than run with a lot of sweat….
Taxi Krabi airport to AoNang is about 600-700 B (try to arrange online ie. https://www.krabitaxi.com) or just grab a taxi at the airport (a bit more expensive, max 1000B)
Succes
For the taxi to Bangkok Center, count on THB 400-500; but you also have to give money to the taxi driver 1 or 2 times for the toll that has to be paid on the way from Suvarnabhumi Airport to the center. I thought about THB 100-120 what the toll costs. Taxis are widely available at the terminal (ground floor). There is a system to get the taxi because you have to draw a ticket at the taxi stand that shows the number of the parking space where your taxi is waiting for you. This service will also cost you THB 50, payable later to the taxi driver.
Taxi costs Krabi are unknown to me
Taxi is no problem. At the airport, walk to the floor where the taxis are.
Then you grab a receipt and then it is centrally arranged what you have to pay.
That always goes well. Of course, the price depends on the location of your hotel.
If you think it is too expensive, you can go by train or sometimes take a bus (to Kao San road, for example)
For tips in Bangkok take a look at http://www.laithai.nl.
Have fun and acclimatization seems easier to me by the sea (eg Jomtien).
Dear Elly and Cees,
Taxi ranks all the way down at the airport, in the arrivals hall you walk to the right then take the escalator down. You will soon see the taxi stand in front of you.
The taxis are metered. On average you can go out between 600 and 800 baht, this includes the toll on the express way, which you have to pay separately to the driver outside the taximeter (approx. 500 baht) if he has to pay the toll, so make sure you have some notes from 20,50 and 100 baht. You can also exchange (cash money) downstairs at the superrich office, the best exchange rate!
Depending of course where you need to be in Bangkok, this is just in the heart of Bangkok, about 45 minutes away by taxi.
A taxi from downtown to Don Mueang Airport will be about 400-500 bath.
I would ask the reception the evening before whether the taxi is ready about 2 hours before the flight.
Checking in 1,5 hours in advance is fine, the counters close 45 minutes before the flight.
Everything based on private taxis.
Taxi from Krabi to Ao Nang I unfortunately do not remember, this was 10 years ago, but this is also not expensive at all.
Happy holiday to you.
Keep that receipt you get from the machine. This also contains the details of the taxi and the driver. If something was not right afterwards, you can use that information to contact the complaints office.
We have never had any problems with this. Yesterday we paid to Si Lom all together 490,00 (380 on the meter 50 surcharge airport and 70 on toll)
At the airport you can choose between a taci for short distances (-10 KM) normal taxi and larger taxis for when you have a lot of luggage.
Really, and although it seems to have eluded many completely, the taxis here in BKK even have TaxiMETER on top. From the airport that is even a piece of cake, because you first have to draw a ticket with your destination at a machine. There is extra besides the meter: 50 bt (no, that's a bit more now) for airport and the toll you have to pay on the expressway along the way, depends entirely on where you want to go. It is also remarkable that when they are free they have a red signal behind the windscreen. Although that meter and red are now being adjusted to more logical expectations. Count on a total of around 300 benefits for HTL in central BKK. And note that Mr. driver with his school-boys shirt in blue with registered number on it actually turns on the meter - it then jumps to 35 on departure, a Km costs a little more than 5 bt and increases in steps of 2 bt.
How early you need to be at DMK: that is different, as with every airport and every airline anywhere in the world something else applies; when you need to be checked in with your airline (another person who thinks they can play travel agent without the details??). It is almost always somewhere on your booking or otherwise on the site. No matter how long that line is - that's no excuse, only the fact of checking in counts. Also varies for domestic or international. Incidentally, AirAsia has machines for checking in outside the hall, with almost never a queue. Never stand behind a line with many Chinese people.
You may like to know this. We have been coming to Thailand for 10 years and always travel by public transport. A super fun way to discover Bangkok and you see much more. When you have taken your suitcase from the belt, you walk towards the signs for the skytrain. https://travelhappy.info/bangkok-bts-and-mrt-map/ there you take the skytrain with the blue line. Check with your hotel in advance which metro stops closest to your hotel. With the Skytrain you can transfer to another line (depending on where you need to be of course) It's easy ... nice and cool, super cheap (50BTH one way pp) and runs all over Bangkok. Transferring to the BTS or MRT costs an average of 50 BTH per trip, which means that the two of you will spend about 100 BTH (= €2.75) for a one-way trip to your hotel. If the metro stop is too far to walk, you have a nice option to take a tuktuk. Have fun!
Well,
I live in Lak-Si, which is the residential area right opposite the entrance to the terminal at Don Muang airport.
All planes from Europe land at Suvarnabhumi Airport, from there I go with the "meter" taxi, one floor below, get a receipt from a machine outside and go to the taxi with the number of the ticket.
Mind you, you always have to pay 50 Bhat extra because of the airport (has the driver already paid) then I pay the tolls myself in total 95 Bhat, get the change back neatly, so beware, you must have 100 Bhat in your pocket. (First pin, then buy something at 7-Eleven and you have small money) For the ride itself I pay 380 Bhat + so that 50 Bhat.
Domestic flight or to the region, always from my backyard (10 minutes by scooter) I am always 1,5 to 2 hours in advance. Air Asia has check-in printers in the departure hall, which close 1 hour before departure.
NB; Bangkok is huge, from Suvarnabhumi airport to my house is over 43 kilometers. Everything within Bangkok. The choice of your hotel is certainly important for the time it takes you to get to Don Muang. Due to the construction of many skytrain connections, many important roads are narrowed and there are very long traffic jams. My advice; sleep the last night in Lak-Si or the Airport Hotel in Don Muang.
Went to ao nang for a month last year and 3 weeks this year. From the airport you can be taken to your hotel with a shared van for 150 baht per person. Drop off at the door. Know quite well ao nang and if you want more information you can mail to [email protected] related to restaurants, hotel or where to go to the beach.
Pleasant holiday
I always take the airport rail link. Departs from the basement. Well signposted at the airport. Fast and cheap. Until the end point and then the last bit with a taxi.
There are 2 types of taxis in BK. In Jan in BK (suvarnabhumi), ticket drawn, tracked by number. Sits in taxi, gives driver a price, no meter. Knew this was too much for the short ride. Previous experiences.
So said no too expensive. Had to get out of the taxi again, but accompanied by a driver back to a counter and got another taxi with meter. So it was cheaper.
Be aware that the taxis are small and you usually sit next to your suitcase, suitcase never fits in luggage compartment due to gas.
As others stated, hotel usually has shuttle bus, try to arrange with that. Pick up from Don Muang and return in the morning on departure day.
Perhaps hotel Krabi has the same arrangement.
Make sure they contact you about transport. OTHERWISE things can just turn out differently and there is nothing. Experienced in CM, no response, then was reimbursed by the hotel when explaining.
Mail was lost in some way.
At Suvarnabhumi Airport indeed walk down and take a ticket. Usually they run on the meter, but the last time the driver didn't want that (he wanted a fixed price), so I got my suitcase out of the car and walked away. He came after me that he agreed to turn on the meter after all. Afterwards it was only about 100 baht.
In all other places I never take a (conspicuous) taxi, but I always use the Grab app. Works perfectly and fast. The price is known in advance (in the app) and is usually slightly lower than a regular taxi (not much difference).
Don Muang is sometimes extremely busy, both departing and arriving. When I went to Cambodia I needed 2 hours and was even taken out of line by staff to catch my flight. Also coming back from Cambodia 1,5 – 2 hours, before I got through immigration at Don Muang.
Back to Thailand on Saturday 🙂
Take a number at the airport, go to the section where the taxi is ready, already offer 500 Bath and you will be in the hotel in no time! All transport well arranged throughout Thailand, obtain information in advance and you will be on the spot before and after!
Rome 2 rio ff install and you know the different possibilities with costs everywhere.
There are various options for transport to your hotel in Bangkok. Such as taxi or Skytrain.
You did not mention the name of your hotel, so you have to check the map of Bangkok yourself to see where your hotel is and which Skytrain or metro station is closest to it. Skytrain and metro have a number of transfer points. And possibly take a taxi or maybe a tuk-tuk for the last part.
For the domestic flight to Krabi it is customary to check in 2 hours before departure. Also be on time. Check-in is often possible up to 3 minutes before departure.
Before Don Muang I took the Sky train to Mo Chit the last time. Then you avoided a taxi ride through busy Bangkok and therefore a delay. And from Mo Chit I took the taxi.
Anyway, have a nice holiday.
Dear Bloggers,
Thank you for responding so en masse and coming up with so many useful tips. In Bangkok we stay in hotel Amber Boutique Silom and in Ao Nang in hotel Krabi Tipa Resort.
In Bangkok you will spend about 350-400 baht, in Krabi a maximum of 300 baht.
