Dear readers,

This month I will visit the consulate in Amsterdam to apply for a visa spous.
At the moment I am still in Thailand. I had received a list at the immigration office in Chiang Mai which documents were required for the application (visa spous), but there is 1 conflict between the website of the consulate and the requirements of the imm. office in Chiang Mai.

Website consulate:

  • Your passport, copy of the passport, copy of the flight ticket/flight details, fully completed and signed application form, copy of your recent income details in your name, no annual statement (minimum € 600 per month per person in income or € 20.000 in a savings account) ,
  • If you are married or officially cohabiting and 1 of the partners has no income, the monthly amount must be 1200 per month.

Immigration office in Chiang Mai
are you married, income 40,000 THB or account with 400,000 THB.

I have an account with 400,000 THB….as you read NOW, I/we need a whopping 850,000 THB in our account to meet the demand.

Any income data can also help, does the consulate mean bank account? How many months do I have to prove that I and my wife have enough income?

Some information relevant to answer my question:

  • I am 34 years old myself.
  • Married (have deed both Thai and English).
  • 1 child (have birth certificate both Thai and English).

Thanks for the comments.

Yours faithfully,

They are

Dear Sono.
I think you're mixing things up.
  1. The “visa Spouse” as it is called is not a visa in itself but an extension of a Non-Immigrant “O” based on marriage to a Thai. It is also sometimes called “Thai women visa”, and it is often stated on the stamp, but as said, this is an extension and not a visa.
  2. Since it is not a visa but an extension, you cannot obtain it in an Embassy/Consulate. You can only get renewals in Thailand.
  3. What you can obtain at the Embassy/Consulate is a Non-Immigrant “O”, Single or Multiple entry, based on your marriage. The requirements are on the website of the Consulate, and are slightly different from the requirements for an extension in Thailand, as this is not an application for an extension, but an application for a Non-Immigrant “O” visa. These requirements are also adapted to the local currency of the country and are therefore a decision of the local Embassy/Consulate. http://www.royalthaiconsulateamsterdam.nl/index.php/visa-service/request a visa
  4. With this Non-Immigrant “O”, Single or Multiple entry you can go to immigration in Thailand, and request an extension of your stay (one year) based on your marriage to a Thai.
You then have a so-called “Thai Spouce Visa” or “Thai Women Visa” but as said, this is not a visa but an extension. You have received the requirements to obtain this from Immigration Chiang Mai. So the financial requirements are 40 Bath monthly income, or 000 Bath in a Thai bank account (a combination of these is normally not possible, but this may differ from the Immigration Office). So you do not have to prove 400 000 Baht. As a Thai, your wife does not have to prove anything financially.
You say you are now in Thailand. What visa are you there with? If you are there with a Non-Immigrant “O”, and you have 400 Baht on the Thai account, you can also apply for that extension now. You do not have to return to the Netherlands for this.
If you are there with a tourist visa, you can also have this converted into a Non-Immigrant “O” (at least this is certainly possible in Pattaya). You can read all about it in the Dossier Visa Thailand.
I hope this helped you. If not, feel free to ask me for additional information.
Regards,
RonnyLatPhrao
