Flying to Vietnam via Bangkok?
Dear readers,
I want to fly to Vietnam via Bangkok soon. Can you tell me if this is possible if I have a transfer within 24 hours? Or do I still have to quarantine (one night) in Bangkok? Do I have to clear my luggage or can I label it if I have a confirmed reservation? Can I fly even if the color code of both countries remains orange?
I will continue to fulfill all further obligations. (booster, PCR test, etc…)
I like to hear.
Regards,

Fly with KLM and codeshare with Bangkok Airways to danang.
Hi John,
Thank you for your response. Have you flown this route recently? Were you able to continue labeling your luggage at Schiphol? I'm hearing conflicting information on this.
Hello Theo,, If you fly from BKK within 24 hours, the luggage will not be labeled, especially if you fly with a "low-cost" airline.
Theo, are you entering Thailand?
If yes, then you must comply with the quarantine rules, and later possibly also in Vietnam. Labeling is then pointless because you will need your luggage in Bangkok; if labeling is already possible because you have actually booked two trips: AMS-BKK and BKK-Vietnam.
If you do not enter Thailand and therefore remain in transit, the luggage can be labeled BKK and Vietnam upon departure at Schiphol. Then you will stay in transit for a few hours at the most without entering Thailand.
About the color code, I would consult Vietnam's websites.
Hi Eric,
Thank you for your response.
I fly within 24 hours and therefore remain in transit. In that case I understand that I do not have to be quarantined and that I can have my luggage labeled at Schiphol to Vietnam. However, Henry's message suggests that this could not be done. This makes me doubt. It would of course be a great relief for me if my suitcase can go straight through and I don't have to clear it in Bangkok. This used to be possible without any problems, but maybe this has changed due to Corona? Has anyone had experience with this recently?
Conditions for transit on Suvarnabhumi:
Passengers who transit/transfer from international flight to another international flight at Bangkok International Airport
1. The time period of each Transit/Transfer operation shall not exceed 24 hours.
2. Each passenger shall possess either of the following documents which are:
a. Medical certificate with a laboratory result indicating that COVID-19 is not detected (done by RT-PCR technique and issued no more than 72 hours before traveling)
b. Certificate of Vaccination certifying that the holder receives manufacturer's recommended dose(s)of vaccine approved by World Health Organization (WHO) or the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand, no less than 14 days before departure.
3. Each passenger shall possess Travel health insurance (worldwide or including Thailand) covering health care and treatment expenses for COVID-19 disease, or any other guarantee throughout their stay in the Kingdom, with a coverage of no less than USD 50,000;
4. The exempted passengers will be required to be in the designated transit areas and strictly comply with the disease control measures applicable at the airport of transit.
Your destination is Vietnam, then let me explain: you book a flight from Amsterdam to Vietnam with possibly a transit (transfer) or stopover (you stay on the same plane). Then of course you already know where you want to fly in Vietnam and the airline will answer every relevant question via their website or customer service. I don't really understand why you ask a question about it here, while the first designated point of contact and also the person responsible for information is the airline where you book your ticket.
I still hear a lot of conflicting messages. (also with airlines) Are there perhaps others who have recent experience with how people work with this at Bangkok airport in the event of a transit in this Corona time?
