Home » Reader question » Reader question: Extension of 5 year Thai driver's license in Pattaya
Dear readers,
This was already discussed in March, but I have not been able to discover my question or answer to this, only contradictions. At one place you apparently have to provide a certificate of residence, at the other it may also be the yellow book (Tambien job).
I have both Tambien Baan and the pink ID for farangs, is that sufficient for an extension application in Pattaya or do people necessarily want a certificate of Residence? Going to immigration takes me an extra day hence this question.
Who has recently applied for an extension in Pattaya and can shine their light.
Thanks.
Regards,
Piet
Last week both my driver's licenses were renewed for five years.
I needed: to obtain a residence statement at Immigration 600 Bath for two driving licenses for a car and a motorcycle. , three passport photos, 2 x copies of passports, 2 x copies of driving licenses, and also take the original papers with you. Do a small test: color eye test and depth test. Pay 1060 Bath for it
both driver's licenses and you're done. Good luck , this was in Pattaya !
With me in chiang mai my yellow tambien job and pink id card was enough only they refused to give me the 5 years. I got a 2 year old, according to the lady behind the counter this had to do with new rules.
I have 21 Thai driving licenses in Nong Han on March 2, 1060 baht. color test and watch a film for 2 hours, copies of passport and house book, photos are taken on site
This seems to be raising its head, extension by 2 instead of. 5 years. A friend of mine went to the office closest to his house last week for an extension.
He faced 2 problems.
1. This office was closest to his house, but they were not allowed to give him an extension there, because this office is not in his residential district and a foreigner has to extend in his residential district, a Thai can go anywhere.
2. They also report there that if an extension has to be made for a foreigner, they will not do this for more than 2 years because of this. new rules?!
My friend went to the office in his residential district, rara … got an extension for 5 years without any discussion!
Is this really a new rule? Anyone who knows for sure can say so. Thailand it remains surprising.

Temporary driver's license, so 2 years, is given to people with temporary residence. If in possession of an annual visa or extension of stay, a 5-year driving license can be issued.
I have an annual visa, but nevertheless I only got a driving license for two years, also a so-called “Temporary car”. Could this be because this is my first driver's license?
Yes, that's why.
In the past, when the 1st driving license was issued, a temporary driving license was issued for a period of 1 year, which is now 2 years, even if you have an annual visa.

Both Tabien job and certificate of residence are accepted.
I always use my Tabien job.
Renewed my driver's license in Pattaya this morning.
Copy of passport with visa stamp and entry card on immigration.
Proof of address and copy of old driving licenses front and back
handed in at counter 9 of immigration and you walk out again within half an hour with the necessary paper.
It takes a whole morning there, because they treat 60 people at the same time and watch a 40-minute video.
Furthermore, they are very cooperative.
Done in 2 days.
just passed 400 baht: a certificate of residence is required. and then:
passport+visa original and copy
thai drivers license original and copy
…and also put your signature on all copies!
Piet, you must have a resident certificate at the transport office in Pattaya
Unlike Pattaya, Rayong accepts the Yellow Tabien Course and does not require a resident certificate.

Dear Pete,
Today you will again hear different responses to your question. It depends where you go and who you meet. So if you want to exclude everything, it is important to inquire on site.
The most logical thing, for what it's worth, is to consider what now seems to be important for the issuance of driving licenses. And one of the fixed requirements is that your whereabouts are made known. This can be done, among other things, via a yellow booklet or pink Thai ID card or, failing this, the old driver's license (if issued, of course, this is stated on the back) or the residence certificate with the Immigration Police, where you are registered via registration and housing contact announcement, etc. Copies of valid passport, holder sheet and visa sheet. No doctor's note for renewal in Pattaya. Photo is taken on site. Tests speak for themselves, so now watch the video to complete it and then get some money. Copies can be made at the shops opposite the driver's license building.
A work permit, I assume, also counts as a certificate, right? I don't live in Pattaya but elsewhere in Thailand. Can I just as well get my driver's license in Pattaya?
Danzig, as far as I understand from your previous responses, you are in the deep south of Thailand and you teach there. I'm not going to lecture you, but why make it difficult when it can be done all the way from the deep south to Pattaya?
A work permit is something completely different from a Residents Certificate.
My friend recently found out that he had to apply for an extension in his own district, whether that is also required in Pattaya I don't know, but Henk Hauer does.
This Certificate can be obtained from Immigration, costs 500 Bath, was 300 Bath, or if you have and that may be used, bring a Yellow Tabien Job.
You already have a Temporary for 2 years, by the time of renewal it is best to check what the requirements or possibilities are.

I am a teacher in Narathiwat and my vacation has just started, which I want to spend in Pattaya, among others. I don't have my motorcycle license yet, but I do have a car license, but that wasn't easy. The Thai government in this region seems to dislike foreigners and makes it extremely difficult for them to apply for documents, contracts, bank accounts, etc. In addition, no civil servant here speaks English and to bring a colleague along as a translator every time. No, I thought: if I'm going to Pattaya anyway, why not get a driver's license there? After all, a friend from the Netherlands was able to get both driving licenses simply on a tourist visa.
I watched the film for half an hour and there were also some Thai people who were just sleeping with their heads on the table, but they passed.
Clearly Danzig, otherwise take a look at the site of Pattaya City Expats Club, there you will find information about applying for a driving license in Pattaya, Henk Hauer of this club guides people once a month when applying for their driving license in Pattaya.

Success.
