Dear readers,

I would like to know if anyone has traveled to Thailand with a prohibited dog breed such as an American Stafford (or pit bull). Through a Dutch organization I heard that it might be possible (only if he is neutered) if this is requested separately from the Thai authorities. The organization won't help me further because I don't want to fly it as cargo (which is their business activity) but in the hold, on the same flight as me.

If there are people who did it, how and where to apply in Bangkok? Did this go smoothly? Do you really have a guarantee that he will be allowed in?

Thank you in advance!

Regards,

San

Importing dogs to Thailand (whatever breed) is subject to rules. Everything has to go through the vet of the airport where you arrive (all can be done by mail). A Dutch vet has all the information about this and knows exactly what requirements you have to meet.

I have often taken dogs (Mechelen Shepherds) to Thailand.
And one has also gone up and down quite a few times.
But the biggest problem I had with a York terrier.
In the end it worked out because they immediately thought a terrier is dangerous.
They couldn't help but laugh when they saw him.
But if it was a bull terrier, I could forget about it.
Just won't get in plus you have problems with the airline many don't take a terrier.
They are strict and I think if you are lucky you can go right back.
I have even heard stories, also from Schiphol that they even put them to sleep.
Don't start because it will be a drama.

I have no experience with importing dogs, but the message surprises me ... In Suan Son, near Ban Phe, pit bulls have been bred for years ... but perhaps this is also outside the general regulations.

Among other things, an extensive health certificate is required, which can be arranged through a Dutch vet.
Whether the dog should be quarantined first will be decided by the Thai authorities.
The legalization all goes through the VWA

You will find further information about input, required addresses and telephone numbers in the bottom. link. where you will also find indications for the import of so-called banned varieties to Thailand.

In addition to the link above, I have previously read that there is an import ban for Pittbull Terrier and an American Staffordshire Terrier, so you will have to see for yourself how far this corresponds to your dog breed.

These dogs are not banned in many countries for nothing, even though there are undoubtedly many examples of very sweet specimens. According to this site (http://thaiembdc.org/bringing-pets-into-thailand/) importing pit bulls into Thailand is not allowed. Apart from that, getting your dog into Thailand can be a problem because many airlines don't want to take pit bulls.

If you know how it works you can import any dog to Thailand. You must have the international health certificate. And a blood sample from the veterinary practice. I have never had any problems. And I have dogs all over the world. delivered.
The man in Udonthani knows all about that.

I only have experience with transferring our american bully from Thailand to Belgium. It does indeed require a lot of paperwork and it took us almost 1 day to get all the documents in order at the airport in Bangkok. Very helpful and friendly and our dog was also well taken care of before departure, hung in a room with air conditioning and only 10 minutes before departure they brought him on board. And indeed not many airlines want to take such dogs with them, eventually I ended up at KLM where they helped me very well. Once landed at Schiphol, our dog was also the first to be disembarked, with a folder full of documents up to customs where two men flipped through and this was it.
