From Amsterdam to Bangkok and a transfer to Phnom Penh?
Dear readers,
I want to fly to Phnom Penh in early April. I want to go from Amsterdam to Bangkok and a transfer to Phnom Penh. My question is, is this transfer possible due to covid?
I hope someone has information.
Regards,
Gerrit
Editors: Do you have a question for the readers of Thailandblog? Use it contact form..
It is permitted under certain conditions - including a pass ticket, prior Covid test and insurance obligation. See, for example, what Lufthansa writes about it:
https://www.lufthansa.com/th/en/local-page/transiting-in-thailand
As far as I know there are flights to Phnom Penh with 'international transfers' via Suvarnabhumi airport.
E.g. KLM
See here the papers you must have for such a transfer: https://www.caat.or.th/en/archives/56377.
Here the same conditions as stated by Lufthansa: https://www.lufthansa.com/th/en/local-page/transiting-in-thailand.
Dear Gerrit, as can be read in other questions/answers: the information you provide is unclear/incomplete
In summary: if you fly with the same airline from ams to bangkok – and with the same airline from bangkok to phnom phen: have it “passed through” in amsterdam. Then there is nothing wrong in bangkok (you will not go through customs)
When there are different companies or (which is also possible in Bangkok) transfer to another airport: you first have to go through customs - and then the Thai regulations on quarantine are automatically mandatory (including Thailand pass etc)
Do other readers have additions/corrections?
Can you go on like this?
You can book the entire flight – with a stopover in Bangkok – with KLM, but the second part is operated by Bangkok Airways, which is in fact not a skyteam member. If you only have hand luggage it is no problem. Otherwise you run the risk of having to pick up your suitcase behind immigration and check in again, which is not possible at the moment. It is best to inform KLM whether your luggage can be labeled, but I doubt it - I have had negative experiences with that.
Dear Gerrit,
At the moment that is perfectly possible. How that will be in two months I cannot predict.
I arrived in PP from AMS via BKK a few days ago.
I would buy a (KLM) ticket AMS – PNH, then you will be met in Bangkok when you disembark and taken to the connecting flight.
The current procedure can also be found at:
https://www.anvr.nl/reisinformatie/detail.aspx?bestemming=cambodja&nummer=883
The ANWB travel insurance can ask you for a country letter, which will state the famous $ 50.000.
Have a good trip in advance!
Gerrit, this is what Lufthansa says:
https://www.lufthansa.com/th/en/local-page/transiting-in-thailand
But this is only possible if you stay in transit, so you do not enter Thailand. Please inform yourself thoroughly about the Covid conditions and status in Cambodia!
On Facebook group is Cambodia visa and work permit group. If you put your question There… They usually answer very quickly. It's easy for Cambodia. 72 hours pcr test and vaccinate papers. Thailand has a short quarantine but at the moment things are changing quickly in Thailand.
We made this journey today. Great to do. Make sure you buy your ticket in a bundle, not two separate tickets. Then your luggage will be labeled.
To Phnom Penh.
In Bangkok you need:
– vaccination certificate
-extra covid insurance (orange area) you can also use it for Cambodia. If you inform your insurer of the two countries, they will issue a separate statement for both countries.
- negative weekly test not older than 72 hours before departure.
In Cambodia all of the above + an evisa.
On arrival you still have to fill in a number of forms. And a rapid test is taken at the airport (you don't have to pay or arrange anything for this). If it is negative you can go.
These are the current rules. Keep an eye on changes through the official channels.
