Dear readers,

Can someone please help me find the right place.
I am leaving for Chiang Mai in April and would have loved to visit Umbrella village. But when I enter this on the map, I get two options. In the west outside Chiang Mai “Bo Sang Umbrella Village” almost 2 hours away and in the northeast “Bo Sang Winner supply” 20 minutes away

Where should I go for the famous umbrellas?

With kind regards,

Ronald

Just google for “Umbrella factory Chiangmai” and you will see that San Kamphaeng or Bo Sang is located 8 km south-east of Chiangmai. An abundance of vans or tuk tuks in Chiangmai will take you there with pleasure. No problem.

Been there once and maybe a tip. You can ask to paint your own design on such an umbrella. Nice to take with you. The painter was asked about the cost and he replied “up to you”

And not just on an umbrella. It can be done on everything. For example, we had our photo camera bag taken care of. Nice though!

From Nawarat Bridge (extended from Thapae Road) you can take a white songtaew (pickup truck with seats in the back) for 15 THB (about 35 Euro cents). You first drive on Rd 106, then this becomes Rd 1006, heading east. Distance 8.5 km.

Ban Bosang is the name of the village located about 10 km east of Chiangmai.
    Direction San Kaempeng .
    Easy to find .
Follow the old road from the Nawarat bridge,
Then you go over a viaduct of the super highway.
Then just follow the road towards San Kaempeng.
On this road you will see many woodcarving shops, etc. with buses full of tourists.
At some point turn left at a busy intersection and you are in Bosang.
The umbrella village , and more than that .
Every taxi and tuktuk driver knows where to find it.

    Dear Ronald,

We live in Bosang. Also called Borsang or Ban Bo Sang. The umbrella village.
The description above from Jan Beute is correct, Bosang is located on the 1006, halfway between Chiang mai and San Kamphaeng. There are various workshops with a showroom annex shop where you can see the entire process of making a parasol. Also woodcarving, silversmithing, silk manufacturing can be seen.
    Welcome.

    Lilian
