Dear readers,

My son will start the HBO course in tourism management next year. During his internship, he would prefer to go to Thailand (Chiang Mai) in an exchange program. He speaks and reads Thai and writes it reasonably well. He also has a good command of the English language.

The school here has no contacts (yet) with a study program in Thailand.

The question is whether any of your readers are familiar with a higher vocational education in tourism in Chiang Mai that also exchanges students.

Regards,

Luc

    A few notes:
    – There are no HBOs in Thailand. Only universities of different quality level.
    – exchange means that, in principle, Thai students also go to the Netherlands to study. This construction is a rarity, especially because of the large difference in quality.
    – I think the big problem is that the HBO in the Netherlands will have to take care of the fact that your son has studied in Thailand and has therefore met the Dutch quality requirements. HBO is responsible for this. It seems to me that HBO does not do that because they have no contacts here.

The solution seems to me is that your son will study at one of the universities in Thailand for a certain period of time, eg 1 year, if he likes it. I think that could be better if he has completed his HBO in the Netherlands. He may then be able to get certificates for the lessons he has taken, but not a diploma.
I now also have such foreign students in my class for 2 semesters

I would look for information at the Dutch embassy in Thailand, they might know how or what.

    Dear Chris,

Thanks for your comment! You let us know that you have 2 foreign students in your class. Which course of study do they follow?

    Regards,

    Luke.

      hello luc
They follow the BBA Event and Tourism marketing, but do not follow all the lessons, but a few, including my course in Innovation. For the rest they travel around Thailand.

    Luke,

The level of education is significantly lower than in the Netherlands, it is sometimes said jokingly that a Thai Bachelor is comparable to the Dutch Mavo+

But if your son can get along reasonably well with the Thai language, it might be a good idea to come to Thailand after Higher Hotel School and follow a 3-year course for business management at a university for a Bachelor's degree. .

Then he has a Dutch Higher Hotel education and a Thai Bachelor. This is a very interesting candidate for companies such as Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Wyndham, Accor, etc.
He can then ask to work out an internship program within the company, of 4 x 6 months.

If someone has his education and the applicant will ask me this, I will never let him walk again and start him directly on Monday. Because both the training and the initiative radiate leadership.
Every company can use good leaders.

    Strong, Greetings Nico

    Maybe a possibility

I have been a teacher at BBA and MBA level in a Thai university for 10 years now and a Thai BBA (and less an MBA) diploma does not add anything to a Western dilpoma in my opinion (and my contacts in the tourism world). Precisely because of the very low level. My university provides a double degree program: a Thai BBA (or MBA) degree and a French diploma. You can show that French diploma when you apply. And leave that Thai at home. It is not without reason that Thai universities are so keen on double degree programmes.

There used to be an exchange project with the UA (University of Antwerp) and the CMU (Chiangmai University).

Pay attention to what a “grade” in Thailand means compared to the rest of Europe.

Nuffic Neso Thailand informs and mediates for Thai students who want to study in the Netherlands. There is an employee of this, Mrs Niehof, at the Dutch Embassy. There is also a FB page. I suspect they know more about exchange programs. You can call or email them. See:

      Tiny.
You are absolutely right, but Luc's son wants to study in Thailand. He already lives in the Netherlands.
