Top up Thai SIM card and calling credit
Dear readers,
I have a TrueMove prepaid SIM card in my phone and a KPN prepaid. Now that I am in Thailand I have disabled my KPN card. I only turn it on when I need it to receive a text message from my bank (ING).
Soon I will go to the Netherlands again for 6 months and will have to make a few deposits on my TrueMove card. I can easily do that here in Thailand via the Bangkok Bank App.
I hope that I can activate the Thai SIM card via roaming in the Netherlands and then use it every two months to, for example, put 100 baht of calling credit on the card.
Anyone have experience with it or does it work?
I couldn't get my first SIM card from TrueMove to work in NL last year...
Regards,
Ferdinand
Hans van Mourik, says.
Have my girlfriend top up my SIM card every month for 40 TH.B via SMS.
Even though I am in Thailand.
If I owe more than 200 Bath, she will transfer it to her SIM card.
Have enough with 60 Bath.
Don't call that much.
Hans
if you follow this link here you can top up safely and securely (have already done it )
https://www.recharge.com/nl/thailand/true-move-opwaarderen
But look at the provider itself, because with AIS you can also do it directly
Kind regards, Pratana
sorry just checked for you and as I thought it can be done online via their site here is the link =
https://iservice.truecorp.co.th/prepaid-top-up
Kind regards, Pratana
Have an AIS SIM card yourself, if you only go to the Netherlands for half a year, you can increase your credit separately for 6 or, just to be sure, 7 times. This will give you one month extension at a time up to a maximum of one year, at least that's what I was told. Whether I can do that in the Netherlands is unknown to me, but I make sure that when I leave my credit remains valid until I return to Thailand.
Hello Ferdinand,
For example, in order not to let my SIM card expire at 12call when I am in the Netherlands, I top up 6 x 5 baht and the expiration date is extended 6 x 1 month.
Best regards. Bz
We will soon be traveling to NL together for three months, it would be useful if I could just put 50 baht on the map myself in NL every month. I have the Bangkok Bank App on my phone, that makes it very easy. But then I have to be able to make contact in NL via my TrueMove card
I also have a dual phone and that is very easy. I never switch off my Thai card. When I want to make or receive a call, I always get the question Sim1 or sim2.
Receiving messages from your bank always goes well with me. Never had any problems and I have been banking with my Thai Bank for a long time. Also from Europe
Take an old device with you, everyone has it in the cupboard nowadays. My brother-in-law gave me an old Thai device. Put the Thai SIM in there permanently. You can also use that device as a Hotspot for your Dutch device. Then you can simply run the Apps on it over 4G.
I have a DualSim phone, so I don't need an old device.
But anyway thanks for your response
…. and the Thai SIM can be topped up for THB 240 for a whole year! (AIS prepaid, unlimited data)
I have a prepaid SIM card from AIS. Before I go to the Netherlands for 4 months, I will do a top-up of 4 Bath 50 times. With every top-up, the validity changes by 1 month.
Why not load enough load on your card before you leave for the Netherlands???
I think you can also just top up via the BKK-Bank app, worth a try.
Just search the app.
I use this option to top up my call credit. Very handy.
Thai telephone does not work in the Netherlands, have had the same number for years, if you top up, it will be 10 bath for a month, so for a year 12x10 bath
Then you must have this activated with your provider. We also had this in the beginning. Now it works fine. Both True and 12call.
If you are in Thailnd now, go to a vending machine for top up. For 10 baht you have 1 month validity. So 12 times 10 baht in it you have 120 year validity for 1 baht. Those top-up machines are most at 7/11, small antenna is on it.
I am now also staying in Thailand and using ais. I regularly put 20 bath on my mobile until January 2020. I can then see how long my credit is valid. I will come again at the beginning of December for 3 months and then I can just call again.
Hope you find my advice useful.
Trees, Huahin
You can still top up your True card now, 10 baht is enough, your card can then also be used for a month longer, if you now top up your card 10 x with 10 baht, for example, you have 100 baht calling credit and your card is still 10 months old to use, you can upgrade to a maximum of 12 months gr. Raymond
True, you can also extend the validity of the card by sending the number *934*30#
Thought something like a 2 Baht per month extension.
Thank you, I didn't know this.
Just tested and I now have enough validity until the end of the year …
I have a d-tac sim and the dtac app.
You can see when your SIM expires via the app.
If you have enough credit, for example 100 bht, you can extend for 2 bht for 30 days.
You must of course have sufficient credit, but I can transfer that online via Bangkok bank to d-tac.
This way you can keep your SIM card active from the Netherlands indefinitely.
I use AIS and buy top-up vouchers at 7-Eleven or MaxValue before I leave Thailand, which I then take with me. I top up just before the expiration date of the credit. The term is usually 3 months. Had topped up the AIS sim card for a whole year in BKK, but in Singapore the validity had expired after 3 months. Had to have the sim card reactivated upon return to BKK. That's why I now take top-up cards with me. You can top up the old-fashioned way wherever TrueMove has roaming.
Ad Reynders, the Thai cell phone works perfectly in Holland, also that the Dutch cell phone also works well in Thailand. 1-2-call works with KPN, maybe that's why it doesn't work for you. In Thailand you see AIS as a provider and I Holland jumps over to KPN on the Thai SIM card.
Many thanks to everyone for the tips.
I am out..
Have now upgraded the validity to December with *934*30# for 2 baht / month.
Then I'll be back here.
I have also been looking for the TrueMove table for these codes.
But I couldn't figure it out.
There must also be such a code to activate an internal bundle for 300 baht every month.
Now I do it at 7/11.. I type in my phone number there and they activate the bundle and then I have unlimited internet again for 30 days.
Does anyone happen to know that code?
Groet
Ferdinand
If you don't trust it to top up through your bank. Buy some tickets at 7eleven that you use every month to top up. I used to do that, and with 12call you also have SIM cards that remain valid for a year if you use them once every 6 months. I've had this for at least 15 years.
You have to ask for them but they do have them
Greetings S
Hi Ferdinand, I did a quick Google search for “USSD Codes”, and came across this page
http://help.mobiletopup.com/knowledge-base/what-are-some-free-keypress-codes-for-dtac-1-2-call-and-true-move/
Here are diff. USSD codes, maybe it will help you,
Succes
Thanks Leo,
I'm going to test it out.
I only see 350Baht 30 days unlimited internet *900*8324# with speed 1MB at True. To watch TV over the internet too slow. That's fine with 4MB. There it says 650Baht at *900*8327#
But the rates change very often.
