Reader question: From Thailand to Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) and visa?
Dear readers,
I would like to go from Thailand to Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) with my Thai wife for a few days, by plane. Do you know about visas for me and my Thai wife? I am Belgian and live in Thailand (deregistered in Belgium). My wife is Thai.
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Rene (BE)
There is no visa requirement for either.
A valid passport
For Malaysia, neither of you need a visa for a stay, as long as it is shorter than one month.
You will receive a visa on arrival, your wife does not need a visa.
Day you don't need a visa if you stay less than a month. The same when you enter Thailand.
Have a look and check on this site:
http://www.maleisie.be/reistips.html
mzzl Pekasu
those visas are simply issued upon arrival and free of charge: a 90-day visa is issued for a Dutch or Belgian citizen without any questions and there is no problem for a Thai national (Thailand and Malaysia are ASEAN countries).
Dear Rene
I know that as a Dutch or Belgian you don't need a visa for Malaysia, I think I don't know as a Thai either, but I'm not entirely sure
This is if you are going for less than 90 days but you write that it is for a few days and your passport must be valid for another 6 months upon entry.
Joop
Does the same apply to a Dutchman with a Thai wife, both living in Thailand?
Is there any difference whether you enter Malaysia by plane or by country?
Well,
At immigration they just put a stamp in your passport and after a fingerprint you can easily walk through.
Very good organization in KL
Kudos to Malaysia.
Gerrit
Forgot to tell.
You can also withdraw money from an ATM in KL with your Thai bank card.
It may happen that a number of them refuse, but there are enough next to each other and then you just try the next one and when you sink into your shoes, you hear rustling and the Ragits fly around your ears. Also use the Monorail. (just follow the signs) an aboveground Skytrain, but on concrete rails. Hold on tight because he drives up to 30 km per hour. ha-ha-ha.
No, a hotel within walking distance of a monorail station. Then you can move quickly through KL with that miracle drug.
Nice city and lovely people and I think more booming business than Bangkok.
Malaysia is doing very well.
Greetings Gerrit
I gather from various responses that you do not need a visa to enter Malaysia.
That's a misunderstanding.
Think of the stamp you get in your passport as a visa-on-arrival.
I just looked at an official site and there I read:
1.Single Entry Visa
This is issued to foreign nationals who require a visa to enter Malaysia mainly for a social visit. It is normally valid for a single entry and for a period of three (3) months from the date of issue.
Just so you know.
and one more addition: those three months should be read as 90 days 🙂
Dear Rene,
Just want to add, don't forget to pass by the Immigration Police
go for a Re-Entry stamp. This way you avoid problems when
you re-enter Thailand. You also have to reapply when you return
log in again.
Have a nice trip…
Make a visa run to Malaysia every 3 months (Non Imm O based on marriage, applied for in NL).
Sometimes by plane to Kuala Lumpur and sometimes from Hat Yai by car to Pedang Besar.
The reason I choose Malaysia is that you do not have to arrange a visa in advance and the visa on arrival is free. My in-laws also live in Hat Yai, so we can combine the visa run with a family visit.
Thank you very much for all the responses and tips
