Home » Reader question » Reader question: Where in Thailand can I have a trusted STD HIV test done?
Dear readers,
Where in Thailand can I have a trusted STD HIV test done?
Looked it up on “Google” found nothing, also sent “Bangkok hospital” mail, no response. This was also a long time ago. So my question here is whether anyone here knows where you can also have a trusted STD HIV test done in addition to hospitals.
Considering the prices in the Netherlands you pay quite a lot! Even for a do it yourself test what you can order online. Only GGD would exceptionally be free, provided you meet their set points.
I want to have a test done, one day before leaving for home. Hence this question!!
Please comment on topic. Not about safe sex, or about using condoms.
Regards,
Thaiaddict
Hallo,
It is best to have the test done in a hospital, does not necessarily have to be a large private hospital, but also a small ordinary regional hospital, if you have it done by a doctor somewhere, in a practice on the road, done, he sends the blood to the lab anyway. from a hospital, only takes longer, health centers and the small villages here and there do not do the blood test themselves, also goes through a hospital, they simply do not have the facilities for the blood test.
There are research centers for prostitutes, but I'm not really aware of them
The risks that the blood is not sent properly are great, that it is on the road for too long and is therefore not/remains cooled properly, also, exchange and loss of the blood, you name it, even the results can be exchanged, especially due to the difference in writing, if they spell your name wrong they will never find the result again.
You can have the test done 1 day before departure, and you can even get the results the same day (really) it is only a test without value, it will take some time before it can be determined that you are infected, suppose that you contract HIV and you get tested within a week (you name it) they cannot yet determine that you are infected, it takes a minimum of 2 weeks to a maximum of 3 months, the so-called incubation period, before one can determine with certainty whether you are infected varies from person to person, ie a test for HIV within 3 months after being infected with HIV is a test with (almost) no value and certainly no guarantee that you are HIV-free.
The only guarantee that you are HIV free is; No sex for 3 months (also no safe sex, something can always go wrong) or exchange of blood products and then (after those 3 months) a good test, by a good hospital and no self-test either.
Yours faithfully,
Lex K.
In places like Pattaya, I think you have enough STD clinics where you can walk right in.
But you can also just walk in at most hospitals. Know that in Khon Kaen it was 570 baht for a test, 1 hour later you have the results. By name or anonymously without an appointment.
Keep in mind that HIV tests are not reliable immediately after your holiday, it takes time before the antibodies are visible, 3 to 6 months in my opinion.
If you have had unprotected sex with, for example, bargirls, the chance of contracting something like gonorrhea or chlamydia is much higher. Medicines are freely available in Thailand for this purpose. Just passing by boots, 1.5 grams of Zithromax before you go home, just to be sure, can't hurt.
In my hometown that is done in the lab of the state hospital, but there must first be a note from a doctor. It can also be added when you take a check-up. Trustworthy ? Mistakes can be made anywhere. Then you have to go to another hospital a day later and get another shot.
If you are staying in Pattaya:
Pattaya Lab http://www.pattaya-lab.com/, but only blood tests. HIV costs 350 baht, nowhere cheaper as far as I know. Result same day.
Hospitals like Memorial Hospital are very expensive. For example, doctor's fee is at least 800 baht.
In Jomtien:
Chanya Clinic, (next to 7/11) near Hanuman Statue. Very reasonable prices.
All tests possible. Result after 1-2 days. The doctor here charges a GP rate, don't know exactly how much, but maybe something like 200. On top of that, of course, the laboratory costs.
For heaven's sake, don't save on something like that and choose an Infectiologist from the Bangkok hospital (eg doctor “Siriporn” in Pattaya), this hospital is accredited by the “joint commission international,” something that many European hospitals are now trying to do.
small hospitals “as well”? We are - and will remain - in the third world: don't lose sight of that!
Look, I can do something with this.
Thanks for all the responses,.
Greetings Thaiaddict
In every government hospital, and undoubtedly in all private hospitals at a higher price, you can have a blood test done according to the so-called Elisa test.
This test determines whether or not anti HIV substances are present in the blood.
Result within an hour, or longer depending on how busy it is of course.
Mind you, the test determines the HIV substances of this moment, not those in three weeks.
