Home » Reader question » Reader question: Are Senseo coffee pods available in Thailand?
Dear readers,
Am planning to send a Senseo coffee machine to Thailand. Do I have to add 10 bags of toads right away, or are these also available in Thailand?
Greetings,
Hein
You can buy these coffee pods in Thailand at the larger department stores. They are slightly more expensive than in the Netherlands.
So a nice cup of consolation. Good luck.
Jan.
Hi,
I haven't seen them in Bangkok yet.
Greetings from Josh
I haven't been able to discover them in Pattaya either. So I just buy ground coffee from DE at the makro and just put coffee in a regular coffee machine. with filter bags.
hello Hein,
a good alternative is coffee duck holder approx. 9 euros I ordered this at bol .com just after the type
look at your Senseo machine, I live in Thailand and use it too, it's simple, you can put regular coffee in it, it works fine
good luck
Jer
I have brought one to Thailand twice now and twice electronically broke after a few months of light use. The curved version and the square one. The square one I have in my house in Holland will not break. I think it is corrosion of the circuit board
Dear Marcus, it is not the device, but due to the enormous fluctuations in the current, I have measured hall between 110 V and almost 300 volts. With me, all the electricity brought with me during emigration has broken down, from freezer, refrigerator, washing machine, toaster, etc. The Thai ones do not break, these are a bit more old-fashioned and set up for the supply of Thai electricity!
searched in Chiang Mai but not yet found. I use Blokker self-fillers, after a while you just don't get a creamy layer anymore, but the coffee here is good.
hello Hein,
A good alternative is to buy a coffee duck. I bought this at bol.com for approx. 9 euros up
type senseo machine pay attention, I live in Thailand and also use it, you can just use normal coffee, it functions fine, good luck
Greetings Ger
If they have the coffee pods for the Senseo, you can of course also buy the Senseo itself in Bkk.
Dear Jan D, Name those department stores because I haven't come across them yet. I do have a tip: buy plactic coffee pod holders from Blokker and send them to Thailand, where you can put your own coffee in for a delicious cup of Senseo, which I have been doing for years.
Greetings from William.
At the Tesco Lotus and at a shop, Chinese, close to the Walking Street in Pattaya. Sorry don't have a name.
Sometimes it takes a while to find. Large retail chain on the Second road in Pattaya. Seek and you shall find.
Hallo,
Just have a look at the following site http://shop.coffeeduck.com/
then you don't need pads at all.
I regularly send them by post to BKK, as a postal package and you do, I also bought a coffeeduck in NL and I can fill it myself with Thai coffee, which is also fine
Hi,
I've looked everywhere, but haven't found them. The closest thing is the coffee pods from Bon Café.
Regards, Hank
You can just buy them at Tesco Lotus in KKC
And they sell a Senseo machine in Central Plaza
Buy a reloading pad in stainless steel in the Netherlands or Belgium, here in Thailand you will find all the types of coffee from Douwe Egberts. so no problem for your pads and cheaper too, and you buy coffee to your taste.
En...
At Makro they sell now, or actually for some time now, pound packs of Douwe Egberts Roodbrand, quick filter grind, in foil packs.
So not under the brand name Moccona, but simply: Douwe Maar Egbert.
You can buy such pads at Bon Cafe, in Pattaya North. They sell these in boxes of 10 pieces for 160 bath.
The Bon Cafe shops are located throughout Thailand (about 15),
Succes
That's right, these pads fit in. Only you can't put two in the device at the same time. I tried that. Just 1 pad at a time is fine, but a lot more expensive than pads in NL.
In Pattaya they are for sale at Bon Café, in North Pattaya, in smaller and large packages.
You can buy it at boncafe
Maybe Jan.D also knows where and which large department store?
Somewhere in 2008-2009 I tried to export to TH from a Dutch coffee factory, but the person I had in mind as an importer/distributor had more of the idea that I would also do the sales for him in TH myself. , and transfer the commission to him…
The Bon Cafe pods are fine with 1 pad, if you put two in, the lid will not close properly, they are slightly larger. It is pricey and I think the senseo tastes better.
I have been using a Senseo machine here in Chiang Mai for three years now. Have two more in the box in case the current one breaks. Still works so it seems unlikely that they will break sooner here. Always take 6 to 10 packs of pads a 36 pieces each with you (go back to Ned twice a year). Weigh nothing so why not. I don't like the subs/reload pads. If I don't go to NL I'll have them send it to me. Never had any problems with it.
I put this question to the Dutch-Thai Chamber of Commerce, in which both Philips and Douwe Egberts are represented in one way or another. Opportunities have been missed not only in Thailand but also elsewhere in the world, and Nestle/Nespresso has done a better job.
The same also applies to many other Dutch products. Good NL cheese has only been available in recent years (the Thai version looks more like plastic). Mind you, we are the largest cheese exporter in the world. But NL butter is nowhere to be seen (the shelves are full of French, German, Danish butter), or biscuits (stroopwafels are available at Starbucks for star bucks), or Calve, or you name it. Quite a few Dutch counterfeit products at eg Casino/Big C (eg very reasonable rusks and hard 'speculoos'). The export policy should be integrated, so that, for example, not only Unilever is involved.
I'm curious about the KvK reaction.
Is there still a patent on the coffee pods? Thought that at the launch of the first Senseo device, a lawsuit was made by Philips and DE on the patents around the coffee pods. It later turned out that other manufacturers were still allowed to market them. In Europe at Aldi, Lidl, AH, ... they are sold under different brand names. If the pads are patent-free, it should be possible to have the pads made at, for example, Laotian or Vietnamese coffee roasters… Is a one-off investment in packaging equipment. It would not surprise me, incidentally, that Vietnam, the second largest coffee exporter in the world, does not make them itself. For the European market… imagine.
It would be more logical that Philips would distribute the Senseo devices in Thailand, you would be surprised how many brands of pads would appear on the shelves.
But maybe that has already been thought about, and the market is too small. After all, a Senseo coffee floats somewhere between the classic filter coffee and the professional espressos. I'm a fan myself, by the way, for at home then.
Dear Hein,
Here in Pattaya, I personally have not found coffee pods in any “big department store”. The only address here is on the road from Nua to Naklua, there is a shop called Boncafé 500 m. from the roundabout with the dolphins. They sell coffee pods in boxes of 18 pods at 190-200 Baht. In NL they are sold in bags of 36 pieces. In Pattaya, the price is therefore at least 380 Baht for 36 pads, which are all airtight packed in a kind of aluminum. 380 Baht equals about 8,80 Euro, so the pads here are almost 3 times as expensive as in NL!!
He does not say where Jan D. Boven buys his pads. Maybe he wants to provide more clarity, preferably as concretely as I did.
I use coffee pods daily, but let friends from NL bring them.
I also wish you a nice cup of tea.
All types of coffee are available. The Senseo coffee is sometimes available at the big BigC and at the Tesco Lotes. But sometimes it just isn't there. There has also been a Holland market in front of Central Plaza where the Senseo was also promoted. It is of course an expensive product and will therefore remain difficult to get this continuously. I only saw the Dolce Gusto cups for sale at the BigC, but very expensive. You may be able to order it online.
Just send the pads along. Never seen them there. Good luck
Dear people, thanks for all the responses. I'll figure it out.
Hein
A very good alternative to the coffee pad machines is a Bialetti Moka Express, none
problems with coffee pods or whatever.
The lifespan of the Bialetti Moka Express is also very long.
They are available for the hob, but also electrically.
