Reader question: Divorce my Thai wife without being present?

Dear readers,

I would like information about a divorce from my Thai wife after 1,5 years of marriage. Would it be possible to get a divorce in Thailand without being present (I don't want to 'accidentally' fall off the balcony)? I know my wife can be very affectionate but I fear possible outbursts.

Please any comment on what to do for a divorce.

Regards,

Guy

Yes, possible. You can do it completely administratively under certain conditions. But you will still have to sign some signatures and she also has something to say.

My advice is to find an imported lawyer and NOT in the immediate vicinity of where she lives.

Finally, I draw your attention to the fact that malice does not occur in all cases and is the exception rather than the rule. Divorces occur in every country.

You understand that you will certainly have to appeal to a good and reliable lawyer ... Be careful with this and do not let yourself be caught by advertisements on websites that are visited by farangs.
I speak from experience… and was led into it by a lawyer who told me: “This case is very simple and you will win easily…”… it was one orchestrated rip-off. During the procedure I changed lawyers. Afterwards I didn't want to leave it at that and summoned the "bad" lawyer before the Thai Law Council... this is also a long-term process. I did this because I want to avoid him poaching others like you and me. For more information you can contact me via: [email protected]…I wish you a lot of good courage, prepare yourself well and don't think that everything will run smoothly.
    Success!

This blog often recommends hiring 'a good lawyer'. But as the above response says, it's too easy to take the wrong one. This blog would benefit from a list of lawyers with good experiences.
My own experiences here with them is that it seems that the lawyers only work in a very small area of Thailand (district) and their positive interest in kind of can-do jobs. It seems very likely that their work is based on 'we know us' and 'it is bearable'
Without reference to a specific lawyer, any reference to a 'good' lawyer is complete nonsense.
Lawyers I have spoken to know very well what they can and cannot do. They don't tell you but you do pay.
Most cases on this blog are little people things.
If it concerns grown-ups, then the degree is worse.
So please list experiences with names of lawyers / work area (location) / type of job
