Reader Question: Collect prize from Thai National lottery
Dear readers,
My wife won a nice amount of money in the Thai National lottery. Now she wants to collect her prize, but she is asked for a percentage of the prize to be paid. Then you don't have to go to Bangkok, they say..... we live 800 km from BKK!
Several sellers ask for 10%! Others 5%, the cheapest is in Udon (2%) However, 175 km away from us. Soon it will be a few hundred Thb.
I don't think this is allowed, has anyone had any experience with this?
Regards,
Henk
Day
only if you win the real jackpot of 6 million then you have to go after Bkk
if you win 200000 or 50000 or 20000 or 10000 bath you can exchange them
at every shop where they sell the lottery tickets and the percentage is 1,5% or 2%
they may never ask again. If I were you I would go after Udonthani there are plenty
shops where they only ask for 1,5%, you pay the petrol, but you earn it back
if they charge 5% or even 10% in your area.
Succes
Pekasu
If it were really a 'nice' amount, I could also get rid of those few hundred ฿ instead of driving 175 km. But that's my humble opinion.
Don't see the problem that way.
Considerable amount starts at least at 10.000 baht, half the population in Thailand gets on the bus for trips of between 6 and 20 hours. Think */- max 500 baht.
If it's a decent amount, make it a nice trip to Bangkok.
There is no risk that the other party has lost the lottery ticket or cannot pay it out at once.
Or any number of other Thai variations.
Incidentally, the Ned. stands for a higher price than approximately € 500, = 30% of the price to be paid!
What a !@#*&%$ approach!
According to our Belgian friends, the nostrils of the "Dutchmen" are so big, just because
the air is free.
All prizes in the Dutch State Lottery are paid out net. The gambling tax has already been paid.
https://staatsloterij.nederlandseloterij.nl/over-ons/garanties
In the lotto game (fill in 6 numbers), the amount exceeds approximately € 500, =
30% withheld.
Why "about"? To be precise: the gambling tax in NL is 29% and is levied on prizes higher than €454.
A percentage is also deducted at the Lotto headquarters at Sanam Binam in Nonthaburi. Is perfectly legal.
Is normal and allowed. The lottery seller pays you and this money comes from his cash register and he advances it. Then he has to go to the lottery office to collect the lottery ticket. Also, 5% tax will be deducted from the amount.
This is tax.
If you have won a nice prize, you still go to udon as a trip. In the Netherlands at the state lottery you can also go to The Hague to collect your prize. 1-5 percent is not really much, you say a few hundred baht yourself and the price will be several thousand baht. Just have a nice day.
And that lottery has no bank at all? Surely they could easily transfer it, or am I crazy?
Which stores sell lottery tickets in Pattaya?
Have won before and then had to go to a stink market near Tukom. Didn't really feel safe.
A few percent is quite normal.
Prizes over 20.000 must be claimed in person at the head office in Nonthaburi.
Moreover, they themselves give the tip to report to the police as soon as you have won a very large prize.
Any prizes over B20,000 must be claimed in person at the GLO head office at 359 Nonthaburi Rd, Tambon Tha Sai, Muang District, Nonthaburi, where you will receive a check for your winnings. If you win a major prize, it is strongly recommended that you report your winning tickets to the nearest police station as soon as possible to prevent any thieves from falsely claiming your prize.

I can already see those eyes of the police officer in question shining when you come to tell him that you have won a few million baht………….
http://www.glo.or.th/ewt_news.php?nid=109&filename=index___EN
All winners will be charged with a 0.5% stamp duty anyway.
A regular friend of mine, who was always with me when I stayed in Thailand, started jumping up and down after checking her lottery tickets. She went completely crazy and before I could ask how much she had won, she had to call her mother, when the conversation was finally over she told me what she had won. It was the same amount I paid her daily for her services. Pffff 🙁
The questioner shows that he does not have much experience with the lottery, it is always the custom to pay a percentage to the inner, try to do this as cheaply as possible, Udon thani is the cheapest at 1,5 percent , Realize that if you lost you also lost the money from the lottery tickets, now you win something and then give the inner his percentage, Grandpa next to the Bangkok bank in Ban paeng is also reliable and does not ask much.
Because the situation in the Netherlands is discussed a number of times, just to be sure, the actual situation. For games of chance, an exemption of € 449 applies, if the price is higher than this amount, you pay 29% tax.
It is logical that those people ask for a certain percentage, they are only intermediaries and will also have to collect the money from the lottery. Sometimes someone will also come up with a false lottery ticket, so they take the risk and you pay for the convenience.
With us (BKK) you pay 3% for small amounts and 20.000% above 2 Thb.
as a falang on a lottery ticket with a profit of 2000 baht I got 1840, months later the same profit and I let my wife go, got 1920.
