Pattaya or Jomtien, which should I choose?
Dear readers,
I am 64 years old, and have been single for 8 years since my wife passed away. Go to Thailand for the first time. I read a lot about Pattaya and Jomtien here, but I understand that both cities have grown against each other. I want to book a hotel not too far from the beach, I'm also looking for some opportunities to drink a beer and possibly meet Dutch people.
I'm not sure if I better sit in Pattaya or Jomtien? Maybe there is more to experience in Pattaya but also very busy and noisy? I also understand that the beaches in Jomtien are nicer? But what about the hotels in both cities is Jomtien cheaper?
Who can give me tips where I can best book a hotel in Jomtien or Pattaya? It's all new to me.
Regards,
Hennie
As someone who once had to spend a week there, as far back as seven years ago, from what I remember I can recommend Jomtien over Pattaya. Not that they are alternatives for me now, I will probably never go there again. I still prefer Hua Hin and surroundings.
I would definitely recommend choosing Jomtien. It is much quieter and less exuberant than Pattaya. If you like a wild nightlife, Pattaya is a better choice. By the way, you can take the baht bus back and forth in 10 minutes. It is probably easier to meet Dutch people in Jomtien. At least the beach is a lot better in Jomtien. The prices of hotels will differ little from each other and there are many of them in all price ranges. In any case, the air quality in Jomtien is better than in Pattaya.
I would also go for Jomtien. Depending on what you want. Hotel or apartment costs in Jomtein are also lower.
I live in Rinhad condominium complex A. at second beach road. You also have Complex S on first beach road.
Here are many studios, 1 and 2 bedroom apartments for rent. Furthermore, the evening or night market in Jomtien is a 10 to 15 minute walk. You are also reasonably close to the immigration office and the post office.
About the beach. Just search and google. So I do NOT swim in the sea in both Jomtien and Pattaya.
There are several photos here on the blog about and from both the beach and the sewer outlet placed 250 meters into the sea at the height of the night market. Also money for Pattaya.
A 20 minutes (by car) is a naval base. The beach there is clean and the water is of reasonable quality.
Costs apartment in Rimhad for a month from 9000 to 20.000 baht per month.
Both complexes have a very good saltwater swimming pool.
I use it four or five times a year.
By Bathbus from First beach road a 15 to 20 minutes to central mall.
Jomtien hennie have i been too expensive gr will
My advice Jomtien
Much quieter
Jomtien directly on the beach, from pattaya with bathbuss 10 minutes drive. (get on and off anywhere).
When you first go think jomtien is better for a bit more rest if you need it. There is also entertainment in Jomtien, but for the great nightlife you have to be in Pattaya. Prices are pretty close I think. Make sure if you book a hotel in Pattaya that it is not directly connected to the nightlife. Then you have 24/7 party and noise, even when you want to sleep. For restaurants in both full to find. Also the ATM and Pharmacy. Makes no difference.
Jomtien palace is fine beachfront hotel conveniently located
Dear Henry,
I also believe that it is better to choose Jomtien to stay….I have lived there for years with great pleasure and you can reach busy Pattaya in ten minutes by baht bus.
It is also easy to meet other Dutch people there….de Herberg….Double Dutch….ons Moeder…all frequently visited by compatriots and within walking distance of the sea.
These locations also all have rooms for rent, although I would still choose a hotel for the first week and then look around…..good luck….Joop
After 4 years of Jomtien and 18 years of Pattaya, I keep choosing Pattaya. Jomtien is "dead" compared to Pattaya. For your real shopping you have to be in Pattaya. The price of a hotel depends on where it is located. And don't fall in love too quickly, 80% go wrong and the ladies? gold and money are important and everyone loves you. Advice: try both. Our Mother is in Jomtien, good rooms and good food and most Dutch people, no, have no shares. Have a nice stay and take care.
Kees, has told you everything about both destinations. Do not doubt Jomtien is with the best choice. There are compatriots and restaurants to be found. For a great location I recommend NEO hotel.
In Jomtien the beach is nicer and it is much quieter. Pattaya can be very busy and hectic.
A good place is the apartment complex Viewtalay 5C and 5D, right on the beach and nice pool
Indeed, it is a great alternative to rent a condo in VT5 C. Rent on an annual basis about 15,000 baht.
Or forgot a 0 or per month.
15.000 baht a year seems very cheap to me.
15.000 bath per month is at least a very well equipped 2 room apartment. In addition, take into account the fact that water and electricity are added separately. Just like TV, internet and telephone (sometimes TV included)
Hi Hennie
Your first time Thailand?
Choose Jomtien , in soi Welcome , is a small pension / restaurant with Dutch owner.
http://www.doubledutchthailand.com/
It is located 50 meters from the beach.
The owner is very hospitable and can also provide you with many tips.
Jomtien, absolutely! Better beach; everything quieter. There was entertainment in the evening, everywhere you can drink your beer. Large choice of hotels directly on the beach and Dutch people come in all shapes and sizes. Have fun!
Everything you need can be found in Jomtien. Rooms in all price ranges: from 600 baht per day.
On a monthly basis, of course, many times cheaper, from 6000-8000 baht per month for a simple room, studio from 10.000 to 18.000 per month, to pricey for an apartment (30.000-40.000).
Possible near the beach.
Bars with ladies, massage parlors, many restaurants, night market, fruit and vegetable markets. Air is usually fresher than in Pattaya. What Jomtien has, Pattaya has in abundance.
And indeed: you are super fast in Pattaya, so if you choose Jomtien, you don't have to miss a thing of Pattaya.
If you keep doubting: no problem: try Jomtien for a month first, then look around Pattaya from time to time and see what you like best, you can always move after a month.
Hello . As previously posted for steps in pattaya center , its calm evening jomtien. Jomtien beach is entertainment all day long. I would say go upstairs from soi 10 to soi 12 or down soi 1 and up soi 6-8 many good condos to rent
recommend inn place soi 6

Dear Henry,
If it were me, I'd say neither, but I'd rather visit Thailand without hordes of Westerners.
However, you are going for the first time and I assume that you would like to have a nice chat over that beer in the evening.
Pattaya is a big madhouse with many women from the poor east of Thailand, who come here on the hunt for a lot of money from Western men. The whole family in Buriram or Surin is supported by it.
Jomtien is a lot quieter. There is a Dutch guesthouse and restaurant near the beach that is run by friendly people from Brabant. I estimate that you will quickly feel at home there at the regular table. Also a place where you can get lots of practical information to make your stay as attractive as possible.
Visit https://www.ons-moeder-pattaya.nl/
You can take a direct bus to Jomtien from Bangkok International Airport. On the bagane floor (level1) on the far left at 8. Note the correct row at the ticket counters.
Success.
Dear Henry,
First, spend a few days in Pattaya North in the very quietly located Thai Garden Resort and view the possibilities of Jomtien from here. With the baht bus you are in the middle of the bustle of Pattaya in 10 minutes and in Jomtien in 20 minutes.
Good luck with your choices!
Job
I would choose Jomtien.
Is by the sea, and good to have a drink
Cees.
I advise you to go to jomtien just in the neighborhood of Soi 9 you have the Tulip Hous Restaurant with a Dutch owner who lives there for 28 years who can give you all the information you want
good luck
Jomtien much quieter and cleaner
Nice bars and good restaurants
For a very good place to sleep a few minutes walk from the beach I recommend Goodmorning morning star very friendly owner nice and very clean rooms
If you like a quieter environment, it is best to go to Jomtien. Personally, I prefer to be in Pattaya. And preferably in the middle of the nightlife. Currently at the Flipper Lodge on soi 8. Asked for a room at the back ( chocolates for the receptionists might help ). I hear absolutely nothing in my room. And I don't have to meet other Dutch people. It's just what you're looking for.
What is really quiet? Is different in Thailand than in the Netherlands. I am now (until tonight then to Jomtien) in a small village 30 km north of Uttaradit. Around here 1 Swede, 1 German, 1 Italian and 1 Texan.
Have some contact with it but that's about it.
Rest here means:
At 4.30 the temple bells are rung. (3 temples audible).
At 6.00:5 am, reports from the village chief are passed through the sound system. Preceded by a 10 to XNUMX minute music.
At about one o'clock at seven someone has died somewhere and the "party" starts with first a lot of music and then a shout of praise to Buddha (I already know it by heart after 12 years = Namo Tassa Bhagvato Arahato Samma Sambuddhassa .... etc).
I sometimes have friends and acquaintances about who want to spend the night in Jomtien or Pattaya.
In Jomtien ALWAYS: Jomtien Palm Beach Resort. Is REALLY a good hotel and not that damn expensive either. For a minimum of 1 week from 1500 baht per night including breakfast. (Oh being a member and promo offers needed).
In Pattaya is a nice little hotel almost at the end of walking street towards the pier, have rooms on the street but also rooms on the beach. Windy Inn Hotel. 500 to 1500 bath per night. Has a great restaurant and a swimming pool.
A very good hotel is Bayview Hotel. Has all facilities and is relatively inexpensive given the location. Then usually eat in the food court can grand central at a 200 meters. For a week including promotion you can sometimes go for 1500 baht per night. Have multiple types of rooms. Those at the back (2nd beach road) are the cheapest sometimes a 1000 bath. (ask reception for super deals).
But of course there are hundreds of hotels and lodgings in Pattaya and Jomtien.
