I have size 43 in NL and here in TH usually 44 and sometimes 45.
Just a matter of adjusting and feeling if they are right.

That won't help you much if your friends are in Thailand and you want to buy shoes for her in the Netherlands.
Of course you also have this problem with clothes size. An L in the Netherlands often does not fit me in Thailand.

Dirk that seems a bit too much to me, size 40 would then become size 51.

Gerard, take a look at this site:

as with all shoes, you have to try them on to see if they fit properly.
My girlfriend in Thailand had bought me wellies, size 42 (it said) I think it was, so I said skeptically, won't I fit (44). Nevertheless appropriate and to my surprise I almost drowned in the boot.
The sizes are in my opinion only an indication and ONLY by fitting you know for sure.
Here in the Netherlands you also have 2 size indications, European, English.
On this site https://www.bataindustrials.nl/dealers-support/schoenmaat-converter/ I saw that there were 4 indications. Make your choice.
