Home » Reader question » Reader question: Who and where do I meet Dutch people in Pattaya?
Dear readers,
I am an experienced Thailand visitor and will be traveling to Pattaya from January 21 to February 1. I know some people there but I am traveling alone for the first time and have booked a hotel around Central Road. I want to use this holiday to recover from the busy life in the Netherlands. I'm an entrepreneur and I really need those 10 days to blow off some steam.
I want to ask via Thailandblog whether there are bars or other entertainment venues in Pattaya itself (not Jomtien) where many Dutch people come. Which bars can you recommend? Are there nice discotheques? It is the first time that I travel alone, but I hear from many that traveling alone to Pattaya is not a problem…
I myself am 32 years old, male and not a huge drinker. I like a good conversation and am always interested in others, especially if I can learn something from them. Perhaps there are also peers who are on vacation or doing an internship or working there?
I'd love to hear it and maybe until the end of the month!
Regards,
Lex
The malibu bar is located on second of pattaya walking street also nice if you care about disco different cafes have live music in pattaya
Hi Addie,
Are there many Dutch people in the Malibu bar?
Greetings Lex
Piet is no longer in the Malee bar, he now plays Malee himself. Piet is in a guest house in soi in Soi Bhuakao
Hi Lex
Soi 12 of the naklua road corner bar at fork
Or eff app on +66800694784 peter we come with 6 Dutch people for a drink we often sit there.
Best wishes for 2016 to everyone reading this.
Peter Yai
Hi Peter,
Thanks for your comment.
Best wishes to you too.
Seems like a lot of fun to have a drink in Pattaya. I'll send you an App when I'm there!
Greetings Lex
There are more Dutch owners of a restaurant than of bars. The Dutch bars are somewhat extinct, but Belgian ones, they are still there.
You can go in Jomtien, Soi Welcome, Guesthouse. Double Dutch. Good food!!
Can be reached with the blue taxi for 10 baht. Owner Peter Manders.
Greetings Jan
Hi Jan, this is an answer that was not asked. Lex asks for locations in Pattaya and explicitly NOT in Jomtien.
Hello Alex,
Thailand is beautiful for bars and feminine beauty.
There are many bars where Dutch people are.
You can often see it on the outside.
Dutch snacks Dutch flag and stuff.
But if you come for discotheques, it is better to stay in the Netherlands.
The Netherlands is number one in the world in this.
I spent weeks looking for discotheques by taxi and every time I was dropped off at a karaoke bar.
In any case, wish Lex a good holiday in Thailand.
Hi Lex,
Pattaya is pre-eminently the place where you will find bargilrs in the bars where you can have a good conversation and get to know them better. Bit of a sarcastic response, but if that's your goal, better go elsewhere!!
Klaasje123
Dear Klaas,
Thanks for your comment.
You can have a lot of fun with bargirls, but I've never been able to have a good conversation with them 😉 Usually it doesn't get further than 'Where you fom' and 'My friend want drink too'… Bit of a sarcastic reaction, but I'm from just plan to have a good time in Pattaya, and be convinced that it is possible with others than (only) bargirls.
Thanks!
You can try Harry`s bar on central road. Located near beach road. Definitely not my favorite, but there are Dutch people there, and they have the Telegraaf.
In Yomtien you have:
Our Mother to eat
Cafe de Babbelaar
Tulip house to eat
Hoek van Holland to eat
And in the Eastside you also have
Brass monkey bar
Greetings
Good read John, this is an answer the questioner is not waiting for.
Lex writes very clearly NOT in Jomtien, so not in Yomtien either.
In Jomtien, located on Soi Welcome, called Double Dutch. Good food and drink. Also to spend the night. This Guesthouse has undergone a metamorphosis. Fine!!!!!
In soi honey you have malee bar.
Dutch food and premier league on the TVs
Wim
Dear Wim,
Thanks for your comment.
I couldn't do this bar yet. I'm going to check it out at the end of the month!
Greetings Lex
The Dutch Harrybar on Pattaya Klang is still run by the Thai
"Widow" by Harry.
She does her stinking Thai best to do that as well as possible .
During the time that you are in Pattaya, many Dutch people come there.
Have a nice holiday and maybe see you in the Harry bar .
Dear Jacqueline,
Thanks for your comment.
I know Nadia from Harry's Bar. In itself a nice bar, but not always busy. Given the number of Dutch tourists, it seemed to me that there would be more bars or gathering places for Dutch people, but many bars that would have been owned by Dutch people are no longer to be found or there are no Dutch people (such as Tornadoes in (thought) me) Soi 6. I did a lot of searching a few years ago (both online and in Pattaya) but couldn't find much.
But I'm sure I'll run into you at Harry's Bar (if you go in January that is) and I got the tip about Malee bar in Soi Honey and I'm going with Peter (above) for a drink.
Thanks!
Wonderfull 1 on the second road we regularly meet with a group of Dutch people.
Hi Ball Ball,
Thanks for your comment.
I now know where to find the Wonderful 2 bar thanks to Frans, so the Wonderful 1 bar must also be available. Who knows until the end of the month.
Greetings Lex
If you walk into Soi 6 from Second Road, there are quite a few Dutch people at the first or second bar on the left, the Tornado Bar. This bar used to be run by a Dutchman, later by his widow, and now by someone else, but the Dutch still visit it relatively often.
A little further south on Second Road is Klein Vlaanderen, not my thing, but you can have a beer there to see who or what is there.
In the passage parallel to Soi Diana is the Dutch restaurant My Way, where you also meet Dutch people on the terrace.
A hundred meters away on Second Road corner Soi 13 is the Wonderful 2 Bar, not specifically Dutch, but for many a no hassle favorite pub, where it is pleasant to relax.
If I go to a disco it's the Insomnia in Walking Street. Downstairs the bar, above the disco.
The places mentioned are located from North to South and can also be visited in that order, Soi 6 is 'open' early in the afternoon, the Insomnia until 'in the early hours' of the next day.
Incidentally, meeting or becoming wiser with compatriots is not my main goal in Pattaya.
Dear French,
Thanks for your comment.
In your series about the girl from Naklua, which I enjoyed reading at the time, you often mentioned the Wonderfull 2 bar. I couldn't find the bar on Google Maps, but I read an older piece of yours where you also explained where this bar is located. It's already on my list, so who knows until the end of the month.
Greetings Lex
Around soi Buakhao (near Central road) there are plenty of Dutch occasions, come yourself (there is also a lot at the moment) at the Inn love bar in soi Diana. Nearby you also have the Malee bar 1 and 2, Harry's place and a few others. A tip for some commenters; if something is asked, respond to the question and do not come up with suggestions (Jomtien) that the author himself already excludes. Even sarcastic reactions may be removed by the moderator immediately, no one is waiting for this.
Dear Johan,
Thanks for your comment.
Indeed, I am not looking for anything in Jomtien. It is a bit too quiet there for me and since I have a hotel on the central road I want to make my round of Pattaya on foot. Thank you for your tips. I plan to visit all the bars once, so who knows until the end of the month (if you're still there). I've never been to Soi Buakhow, despite the fact that I've been to Pattaya a few times. Thank you!
Greetings Lex
Was once invited by a compatriot who happened to come across it in the afternoon where several Dutch people come together in a bar / restaurant on the Friday market on Soi Bukouw, is easy to find and you do see a Dutch flag inside hung up.
Didn't like it there, but that's not the point because you might have a good time on such a Friday afternoon, everyone has to decide that for themselves. 🙂
Dear Frank,
Thank you for your extensive response. More than I asked for, but it can always be useful (for me and for others).
I'll stop by Dre's Bar, Malee's Bar, Café Look Out Inn and In Love Beer Bar. I think I have my list pretty complete for those ten days. If exceptionally nice evenings come out, I will of course nominate it by means of a piece to be submitted for placement on Thailandblog.
Thanks!
Small Flanders. 2nd road
Great listing, for enthusiasts who like to keep a home feeling far away. Cheers!
