Home » Reader question » Reader question: When is the best time to buy a plane ticket to Bangkok?
Dear readers,
We want to fly to Thailand next August. We are already looking for airline tickets, but can't find many offers yet.
So what is better? To wait? Or is it better to book early? Can you gamble on a last-minute plane ticket to Bangkok or not? It's the holiday season.
Who has good tips for us?
Greetings,
Saskia
Try flugladen.de (a German flying shop)
Hi,
I don't know if you know this site, but there you can book cheap tickets to, for example, Bangkok. http://www.skyscanner.nl/transport/vluchten/ams/bkk/140801/140828/vliegtarieven-van-amsterdam-schiphol-naar-bangkok-suvarnabhumi-in-augustus-2014.html?rtn=1
Hi Saskia
my experience is that it is better to book early!
prices slowly go up as you get closer to your departure date.
if you bet that the last flights will be cheaper, you can miss it!
I myself have good experiences with etihad airways, stopover in abu dabu halfway for 1,5 hours, wonderful
with a stopover is also very attractive in terms of price
or you should choose to travel direct of course.
in short, don't wait too long!
wish you a good holiday!
Bart
In any case, I wouldn't gamble on a last-minute ticket. The chance that you will then pay the top price - or find nothing at all - is high.
depends on many factors that cannot be estimated at the moment. You can risk a last minute if you go with 2, I wouldn't dare with more. Early booking is usually the cheapest, especially if you depend on a certain period. If you have requirements (e.g. non-stop; no long layover; which airline) I advise you to book early. Always check with the airline itself, these are often cheaper than the offers of all kinds of booking agents.
Indeed, booking directly with the airline is almost always the cheapest. Moreover, in the vast majority of cases you can also choose your seat(s) directly when booking, which is not unimportant for a long flight!
I can confirm that that is the case. And if you want to travel quietly, directly, the prices of China Air and Eva and even occasionally KLM do not make much difference. Just see what you like. Mean flight time departure and arrival, for example. I have been flying with China airlines for 13 years.
This year we went to Thailand from Brussels in August with the grandchildren. On January 2, 2013 we were waiting at 7 am for the opening of the travel agency that started that day with early booking discounts. We then bought 30 tickets at 6 euros per person with Thaiairways. Airlines with transfers can be cheaper. We went to Connections, but Joker also offers an early booking discount, you can also book via their website. Good luck and have a nice trip.
Hi Saskia,
In any case, wish you a wonderful Christmas and that your trip to Thailand during the summer holidays will be unforgettable.
I advise you to take a look at the website of an old colleague of mine: http://www.destidunia.nl
Through him (George) you can discuss your wishes. He searches for as long and without obligation until you find the tickets that have been translated according to your wishes for the cheapest price. You pay him about € 25,00 per ticket.
Good luck and wish you a great 2014.
Just look up http://WWW.VliegenNaar.nl
Good luck,
Climb.
If you have the time to yourself try to set the departure days from Europe on Tuesday and Wednesday and return on Tuesday to Thursday. usually the lowest prices. But August is the expensive period.
Booking about 3 months in advance is often early enough.
Try searching with KAYAK's search engine
What is also important is if you want a direct flight or “transfer” or with a stopover and you are flexible with boarding points. It is also nice to spend a day or so at the “transfer point” somewhere on the way there and back. You don't fly 11 to 12 hours, but say 2 times 6 hours.
Depending on where you live in the Netherlands, think of: Dusseldorp. Brussels, possibly Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munster/Osnabruck (charters and via Lufthansa).
Usually the arrival ticket train is included in the price or and that is also important depending on how long you stay you can park the car much cheaper in Germany.
You can find target prices at parks flughafen dusseldorf.
A number of airlines that you could look at is from Brussels Jet Air (via New Delhi), British Airways via London (or direct).
Dusseldorf (Air Berlin, Emirates, Etihad or Austrian). Possibly LOT air, Aeroflot, Mahan or Finnair).
Frankfurt (Malaysian, Thai Airways (direct)
You will find them with the search engines.
Hi,
There are no cheap tickets in August. If you are with several people, it is advisable to look at German sites or Budgetair / fly shop, etc. with Frankfurt as departure.
Of course, add the travel costs to your ticket price. Go and see now and possibly book.
Success.
If you book via Antwerp centrally on KLM.com, you will soon save 150 euros. You leave from Antwerp to Schiphol with the talys and then a direct flight to Bangkok. Talys ticket is included in the price. You pay about 650 per ticket but sometimes they have an offer. We flew last October for 445 per ticket.
You certainly don't fly for 650 euros in August, with any airline.
Incidentally, if a short transfer is no problem, you could also take Turkish Airlines into account. Great connection, excellent service – turkishairlines.com
Search well, and regularly check websites. I booked direct flights with KLM 4 months before departure for € 650 pp, was a promotion
Directly every day from Schiphol to bankok.eva air .com
Also possible to book evergreene de luxe, an upgrade for more comfort.
Good service new jumbo 777 class for an affordable price.
Sign up for their newsletter and be the first to receive their offers.
My wife and I are going to Bangkok with Emirates in May; i booked and paid 615,- euro pp for a return from a'dam to bangkok with the giant airbus 380 with a transfer in dubai of 3.15 hours.
We think this is a super deal .
Best regards
Jer
Dear Saskia,
I don't know if you have any other choice but August can have a lot of rain.
Furthermore, I would http://www.momondo.nl watch which are independent of all airlines.
The airlines can see from the cookies they put on your computer whether you are interested in certain flights and increase the price.
I was told when you go to book to delete your cookies and history first, then book on a Tuesday. Then there will be new prices
Have fun in Thailand
computing
Momondo.nl seems like a good site for looking for a ticket, I found it after I had already bought a ticket at Eva air.
I booked the day before yesterday with Eva air for the end of January and back at the beginning of March. Costs 830 euros. pp. The strange thing is that at the first login to eva-air the price was 810 euros, then a 2nd time logging in and then 910 euros. I remembered another advice to delete cookies and then the price turned out to have dropped to 830. Apparently a lot of arbitrariness in pricing and partly dependent on previous login!
By the way, the Elite class at Eva air has become much more expensive. Last year there was a difference of 150 euros, now 500. A ticket cost 1300 euros.
Eva air flies 3 times a week, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, departure at 21.40, arrival BKK 14.30.
Finding a ticket at a good price requires a lot of searching on various sites. There is never a fixed pattern in the prices. Early booking can be beneficial, late to last minute can also be beneficial.
If you are limited by dates, it is best to look out for tickets early. If you don't do this, you will create stress because you often can't find a decent price anymore. In the low season it is often still possible 2 to 10 days before departure.
Every company tries to make its tickets as expensive as possible. But stress sometimes strikes them too, and they launch “bargains” because they fear they will not be able to fill the plane.
A few tips :
– Visit many sites
– Experiment with different dates : often there is a departure or return date that differs by a few days from your desired date, but that is more favorable.
– Departure from another airport can sometimes be advantageous. Take into account a higher travel cost and loss of time.
– KLM often offers cheaper prices when departing from Belgium (Zaventem, Brussels South Station or Antwerp Central Station
– Until a few years ago I often flew from Dusseldorf
– delete cookies just before you make a purchase
Some sites that I never skip:
Kayak, Skyscanner, connections.be, joker.be, jetairfly.be, airlinetickets.nl, thai airways, and then two German sites and a French site where I don't immediately have the names at hand.
I also had success with holidaycheck.de in the past. There you could sometimes find an offer with a hotel that was cheaper or barely more expensive than just a ticket. You could also see which airline they flew with for a particular offer with a hotel. Searching for the same flight on another site sometimes yielded success.
My prices over the years, with departure from Brussels or Dusseldorf, vary. From €469 for TGV from Brussels to Paris, and then a direct flight to BKK with a 747. And super tasty food. Up to 775 euros for a direct flight with Thai from Brussels to BKK.
Flights with : British Airways, Thai, Royal air Brunei, Austrian, Swiss, Turkish, Emirates, Air Berlin, Air France, Jetairfly, Jet Airways, Singapore
Setbacks : Swiss and Jetairways
Pleasantly surprised by : Thai, Emirates, Air France, Singapore and Royal air Brunei
Good luck!
The Emirates Airways flies for € 558 from any German airport to Bangkok and back. This on the occasion of the fact that they bought another 22.12.2013 new A-40 on 380. This will bring their fleet to 140 type A-380 after delivery. You can book that ticket now. top martin
Check ticketspy.nl regularly. They scour the internet every day looking for great deals. We flew with Etihad for 450 euros. Departure from Schiphol, return journey to Dusseldorf. Friends of ours even booked a ticket for 425 euros a month before departure.
I have a dream Martin Luther King.
