Reader question: My girlfriend's son has a developmental delay

Dear readers,

My Thai girlfriend has been living in the Netherlands for a while now. Only her son has continued to live in Thailand with his grandmother. Now it appears that he has a delay in his development. He has been to a "normal" hospital for this, where all Thai people can go "for free". They have examined him, which is of course very nice! Only the hospital actually did not want to give the results of the study. According to them, this was only for the school.

Now my first question is; is it normal for such a hospital to be difficult about giving information from a patient to a family member? His grandma is the closest thing he has. His father is not in his life.

After asking for a long time, they finally gave the diagnosis. He turns out to have ADHD and a backlog of 2 years. Now, however, we would also like to have the results of this study. To give this to an expert here in the Netherlands to see how he can best be helped.

And so the 2nd question is; does anyone have experience with our situation? And does anyone know if it is possible to get this information from the hospital? And if possible, how can we best approach this?

If this does not ultimately work out, we would like to go to a private hospital or clinic, where we have to pay for an examination ourselves. And where we simply get all the results ourselves.

My 3rd and last question remains; Does anyone know a clinic/hospital, possibly specialized in children, where we can go best? For good but affordable care?

The difficulty lies in the place where the grandmother and son live; they live in Surin, near the border of Cambodia. So if anyone knows a good hospital closer than Bangkok, this would help a lot.

I hope I was able to convey my problem clearly! And look forward to your reply.

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Ruud

I am very familiar with the approach taken by Nakornping Hospital in Chiangmai to a six-year-old child diagnosed with ADHD.
Father deceased, mother Burmese, mediation of aunt and me.
Everything was very open, the research results and educational advice were put on the table.
The backlog per skill examined was reported in months.
In my opinion, the advice given to the school is not easy for the teacher to follow in the class situation.

    Hi Ruud,

The “Rajanagarindra Institute for Child Development” in Chiang Mai falls under the Ministry of Public Health, department of Mental Health.
As the name indicates, it is a children's hospital. Ask for Khun Aom, physical therapist.

Perhaps they know a children's hospital in your area. Otherwise, call the Department for Mental Health in Bangkok.

    Good luck !

See a psychiatrist yourself. He can make the determination on regular checks. ADHD is a big word that fits everything. My daughter has a pervasive developmental disorder. related disorder of autism. Was diagnosed in Leuven University Hospital during a three-month study.
Medication temporarily helped with concentration, but antidepressants for young children are not healthy and we have stopped them.
I also thought it was ADHD at first.
Her son needs special education, which I don't think is available in Surin.
