Reader question: Are cigarettes easily available in Thailand?
Dear readers,
I read that you can hardly smoke anywhere in Thailand and that the e-cigarette is prohibited. But what about buying cigarettes, where can you go or do I have to bring enough cigarettes from the Netherlands? Going to Thailand for the first time in May with a tour, so have no idea.
Yes, I know, a bad and unhealthy habit but please let me go ahead, I don't bother others with it.
Greetings,
Wilma
Cigarettes here cost from THB 65, so less than 2 ero per pack and are available in every supermarket.
Outside the supermarkets and small Thai shops !!
If you're in a bar(retje) the boys and girls with slippers come at you at the same time.
So you really don't have to bring (expensive) cigarettes from the Netherlands Wilma.
On every street corner almost is a 7/11 or familymart or the like. Can you buy cigarettes very easily. SMS is a brand I smoked before I had to quit 1,5 years ago
Camel filter and Camel light Thai Bath 60 per pack available in every supermarket around the corner.
Other brands are slightly more expensive. So don't bring it from the Netherlands!!!
In many places, cigarettes are also for sale from “parallel imports”, i.e. smuggling. After some insistence, you pay 360 baht (say 10 euros) per carton.
Near the border crossing in Mae Sai from 150 baht……….
but they are very poor quality.
Extra question about the cigarettes, are they cheaper at the airport in duty-free shops or is it better to buy them in the supermarket?
Rino
At the airport, the choice of various brands when buying tax-free is very limited!
The most common brands are not included and you do not have that much extra benefit.
If you smoke Marlboro, buy it in the supermarket because they are not (!) available at the airport in Bangkok.
When you arrive in Bangkok you can pay for tax-free cigarettes before passport control, you can pay in euros, but you will get Thai change back. Another tip, an ashtray is small, you can close it, throwing it on the ground costs a hefty fine outside the airport, you can also smoke, you will see where.
And no smoking near portraits of the royal family, that's not done. Have fun.
Not before passport control, but after! Before you have to pass through customs. But tax-free still more expensive than at the small Big C supermarkets or 7-Eleven, where Camel “Yellow” costs THB 60.–. That may be due to the fact that the cheap version comes from the Philippines and the "expensive" from Thailand itself.
7eleven can buy you cigarettes, am here in thailand so i know
Dear Wilma,
Available in every 7-Eleven.
If you want to smoke a brand, Camel Yellow 60 baht, great cigarette. Buy a rod right away and you have it for 600 baht.
Same Camels as here but much cheaper.
smoke them!!!
Gr Eric
I don't want to bother you with it, but I think it's a good start to stop. I've been a smoker myself for 50 years now I have copd and can't stop yet but keep trying, I hope I get rid of it before I have to go on a ventilator now I can just walk 1 km then I'm broken. It's terribly inconvenient when you get tired so quickly. But everyone can smoke from me.
I wish you a happy holiday and do NOT smoke them.
If you want to stop ask your doctor in the Netherlands for champix, if you live in Thailand you can just buy champix at the pharmacy about 1350 baht for 2 weeks, I stopped because of it and many with me.
Suc6 Ben Korat
Yes, on every street corner. Pack of Camel costs 65 Baht!
As long as they are not e-cigarettes, no problem and easily available in every 7/11.
My experience in the bus stations like Ekamai and Mo-Chit : when you get off the bus, you are being watched. Anyone who immediately lights a cigarette when getting off the bus is considered a smoker and linked to marijuana(?). Seen several times that a thorough check of your bags follows. Do not buy (copy) cigarettes on the street. It's not worth the cabbage juice. So act normal and everything will run smoothly.
Happy leave.
All supermarkets are cigarettes for sale. But know that you are not allowed to smoke on the beach, except on the street side, restaurants without air conditioning and everything with air conditioning, so hotels, condos. Don't throw butts on the street like Silom, you can actually get fined for 2000 Bt. Know that a restaurant without air conditioning often has tables outside where you can smoke. Be so decent and do it elsewhere. The smoke drasit with the fans FULL back into the restaurant and diners are full of smoke. Really dirty. But cigarettes for sale everywhere, no problem
Smoking in Thailand has become considerably more expensive in recent years, but dirt cheap compared to the Netherlands!.
For sale everywhere and in the catering industry smoking is usually no problem, there are ashtrays everywhere.
Smoking in the open air has also been abolished at BKK airport, there were smoking areas in the airport, but I do not know if these are still there, you did not need your own cigarette there, just walking in and taking a deep breath was enough to increase your nicotine level. to get inside, ie poor ventilation.
On the beach itself it is often forbidden to smoke and there is also a hefty fine, the E Smoker is prohibited and never buy smoking material that is offered to you on the street, which is super cheap, counterfeit and comes from Cambodia.
It is best to buy your smoking materials in a supermarket…
And don't forget, available at any convenience store (7/11, Lotus Express etc.) you'll find anywhere across the country.
Just for you: 7/11 and famalymart are supermarkets that can be found in every street. (in a city) Camel yellow is doable.
Smoking is allowed and you can buy cigarettes everywhere
