Dear readers,

What is the closest decent sandy beach to Bangkok? So I don't mean the nearest seaside resort, but just a cozy beach where you can also relax with a beach chair or bed?

Regards,

Rick

A nice story related to your question,.

Koh si Chang is indeed nice, I was there in December, small island with an old town and some small beaches. Transfer to the temple in Sri Racha for a few baht.

Indeed, Bang Sean beach is a must.
Is very quiet without too much tourism. It is incredibly busy on weekends.

@jurgen: read to the end and see that the picture of the songhthaew is completely wrong because not in BKK. So there is NO sandy beach there along the sea, there is MUD. And I know because I've been there, with the real songhthaew (very occasionally a BMTA bus goes a long way in that direction, especially for school kids). I find that story trend to puke myself, so predictable and almost unfunny.
The last few Km of that sideroad are popular on weekends with BKKers who then go and chew shrimps per kg. Seafood = aharn talay. And progress comes: minivans are already driving there again.
For connoisseurs: it is a sideroad off RAM II, currently completely under reconstruction, near that HOLLAND beerhouse in the shape of a large beer barrel (or is it not called that anymore?) and the large Centran in hairpin shape to BigC. ALL BKK songthaew lines also have a line nr, >1001, I thought this is 1501, but there are several variants/endpoints on it. There are in fact more of them than regular BMTA bus lines.
    Ram II rd is served by 68,17,105,140/1/2, 147, 558, 76 + more.

I stay in Bangsaen 6 months a year
It is indeed a very busy beach on weekends.
    Mostly Thai people come here.
But I do notice that more farangs are going there.
Recommended. If you don't like the crowds, it's best to go during the week.
