Home » Reader question » Reader's question: Termination of health insurance by a Belgian company?
Dear readers,
I have been insured with AXA assistance for several years through their Inter Partner Assistance. Am deregistered from the Netherlands, therefore no longer entitled to Dutch health insurance, AXA was a reasonable addition to my own health insurance fund until today I received a letter from AXA like lightning in a clear sky, I quote;
We regret to inform you that AXA assistance has decided to no longer distribute the Expat product. In accordance with art.5.2.1 of the general policy conditions, Inter Partner Assistance has the right to cancel the contract with effect from each principal due date.
The cancellation will take effect on the next due date. The agreement will thus end on 31/07/2020
Have any of you received such a letter? No further reason was mentioned, but you can guess (Corona)? Now it will be extra difficult to find additional supplementary health insurance, but perhaps you have suggestions for me how to fill this gap.
Awaiting your info or further suggestions.
Regards,
Piet
I also received that letter from AXA and my insurance was canceled on 02/05/2020. I'll just go without. Except for Corona, for which I have taken out insurance with my Thai bank; SCB Siam Commercial Bank provides good insurance against Covid 19 at a good price.
No, this cancellation has nothing to do with corona. But by many, this basically travel insurance was used as health insurance. That will eventually become too expensive.
Just ask AA Insurence, they are well informed.

I can recommend this with enthusiasm. Ask for Matt. He speaks Dutch.
Longhand, thanks for the tip but I'm 80 years old….AA really doesn't have anything affordable in that class
check out FWD
Willem this is a bit short sighted
What is FWD and where can I find it
I can't get further than FourWheelDrive and that won't be the intention anyway
Your help is appreciated now a little more explanation please
Piet
If you followed this blog and some groups on Facebook a little longer, this would not have come as a surprise to you. This decision was already taken at the end of 2019 and various people have already received a cancellation letter, including myself. Coincidentally, I took out another health insurance policy today, following the advice of the aforementioned agent AA Insurence.
It was already mentioned many times here on the blog that this insurance would stop
We ourselves are a bit lucky that we still have time until January 2021
I also have the same for this in Belgium with an annual contract and suddenly via email they no longer want to insure me because Belgium wants you to go back to Belgium. VAB is the insurer not even covered if I end up in the hospital here. What can you do about that doing
Kind of weirdly written. You write that you have an annual contract in Belgium and they want you to go back to Belgium. I think it is a different insurance than Assudis from AXA. Because the latter knows that an expat lives abroad. We even received the message that we are also insured with Corona in Thailand. So why should we have to go back to Belgium if we live here?
I personally know (a friend) someone who works in this department. The decision was made after it was determined that there was too much benefit from this insurance (worldwide).
We have also received an email in which they write that they hope to be able to offer a similar return
